Being type 1, my health and what really grates me are false people who make themselves out to be something when their not
I've just had my training day for the dummy pump booked for March 11th (Insight) so excited I just hope I can visually read remote and pump did have problems with Combo especially loading syringe/cartridge a couple of years ago so had to stick to a basic pump, donnellydogs said it's much better, fingers crossed. I do hope I don't have the same problems as victry77 I think it's terrible treatment we do our best to help ourselves and get that said to us that it's been cancelled. I must admit there's a good pump clinic where I am so I don't foresee any problems.

Not too far away then, hope all goes well masonbason :)

I hope it goes smoothly for you masonbason and you can manage alright with the Insight pump :). It is a real worry swapping to a new pump without being sure you will be able to see all the detail well enough.

I'm partially sighted and use a lamp with a magnifying screen to fill my reservoirs and check for air bubbles which really helps as clear insulin in clear plastic tubing is a real challenge. Good luck with it all.

Totally agree I'm going for the prefill cartridge system on this one so hopefully this will this problem. If everything goes well, I'll get the actual pump mid-June :-)

Hi flowerpot
i'm getting the veo 17 march
and i have had sight problems in the past and i use a magnifying glass to read small labels .i have trouble with mobile phones .but just get by as long as i'm not outside or in bad light
one of my worries is the screen size and brightness.
i see the pump last week but there was no battier's in it so i didnt get a charge to see it propity working

@caretaker........definately insist on seeing the display on the pump in daylight before it is ordered. If youve got sight problems, its important to get a pump that has screen display that you can see in the sun and the shade.

I used to be able to use the old combo in the dark. The only thing with the insight is that I can never get the test strip in, in the dark. The screen lights up brilliantly but its just locating the strip entry. Probably because I'm still so used to the combo.

Must say that its so easy to enlarge the text size that I don't need to but keep doing it by accident.

The only thing I find frustrating at the moment is that it feels like I constantly, daily having to change something. I sync everything up on one day ie charge the remote, change pump battery, change set, change cartridge and within 7 days I then start having to change the cartridge one day, change the set the next, charge the remote the next, change the cartridge next, then change the tube etc......

Never felt this frustration with the combo as the cartridges lasted 6 days and the batteries a good long while in both handset and pump.

Still **** good but its just little things like checking the remote has enough charge before going out or to bed, that the cartridge has enough to last me the day or night or the pump battery is going to last....

Not a moan but a little frustrating....

I can imagine that is a bit frustrating having to change something everyday especially for a working girl like yourself, I'm not working so it'll keep me on my toes and make me realise that this tiny machine is basically keeping me healthy so for me it'll be a small price to pay, plus I never had the combo long enough to get use to it. I've also had a problem getting the sticks in any meter I've had at night even with a lamp on the floor next to my meter so there's nothing new there then:-)

I resorted to a little torch now kept on bedside table!

Yesterday had battery, today have set. I hate wastage so won't waste anything on a weekly basis just to keep things in sync.

Even had to buy a small calendar on wall now to mark things down when I change them.

I suspect if you have really low doses like @ElyDave then it won't be so frustrating as his cartridges will last longer than 6 days.

By the time I have primed mine with the long tubes then I only get a max 2 or 3 days out of mine.

It is brilliant though.. So it does make up a little for the frustration:)

I have quite a high basal rate 43u a day more than half pre-pump days and bolus between 30-40 a day so I'll be changing very often I'm afraid, unless I totally scrutinise everything from my insulin resistance to diet which is what I'm planning to do on the 11 March to get myself in tip-top condition (HbA1c 5.9) . In fact in 15 yrs of pumping I've only ever adjusted my basal 3 times as my HbA has been so good.

@caretaker, do make sure you can manage with the pump screen as it will be with you for 4 years. Are you getting the Medtronic Veo or the 640g pump? Having talked to Medtronic they have told me the contrast on the screen on the 640g pump is improved with white and yellow text on a dark background. The Veo is black text on a grey background and something I have struggled with. Contact your diabetes team/DSN and ask to have a good look at the pump in working mode with battery inserted. It's too important to leave to chance, you need to feel confident that you can manage with the pump you are getting.

the DSN ordered the pump before my appointment so i only got to see the one she had at the clinic with on batteries .Its the old model..i have watched loads to videos about the pump but that not the same ?
i wear glasses only for reading and i can read my old mobile witch is black on grey its not a smart phone just a basic phone for texting and calls the screen is just over a inch square .i can read text messages on that but they are small
i'am get a stronger pair of glasses just in case.
i no this wont help with bright sun light but there is always some where you can find some shade
.it not as if your looking at all the time
i cant see me changing infusion sets in the high street.
thanks flowerpot
