I've just watched a Dutch tv show featuring a guy who's built an 'artificial pancreas' and has been using it for a year. It seems they're pretty far in getting the thing approved too, and it has been tried by an endocrinologist who is T1 and other people.
As far as I understand it looks like an insulin pump with 2 tubes and uses a glucose sensor and not only insulin but glucagon as well.
The builder doesn't even take dextro with him anymore when running!

I wanted to include a couple of interesting links, but my stupid computer comes up with mostly Dutch results, even when using English search terms, so I think it'll work better to do your own search from a computer that isn't based in the Netherlands if you're interested.

The man's name is Robin Koops.

It is. Haven't watched it and can't seem to find a date. Date seems pretty relevant, as he's been working on this for years but now it's being picked up, and he's used the thing for a year now, so his story would have been very different say 2 years ago.
It’s Nov 2019 :)
