Hi all
I am curious if those who have peripheral neuropathy due to diabetes what your first symptoms were?
Sadly I’ve had tingling and numbness in both feet for a year now and it’s now effecting my hands, things such as coordination and finger twitching and pain are a new thing for myself. I am speaking with my GP about all this but I thought it couldn’t hurt asking others.
Anyone else experiencing these and other symptoms?

The first thing I noticed as a problem was pain in my feet. Stabbing / burning.

For many years before that, my feet were overly sensitive - now I think that was the neuropathy as well.

There seems to be a variety of ways neuropathy manifests in different people though.

I suffered burning feet in bed, stabbing pains like short bursts of electric shock, twitches and the weight of a duvet was excruciating, all these disappeared with reduced blood sugar levels. My feet are incredibly sensitive however, last year my right foot i couldn't feel the tuning fork at all, this year surprisingly i nearly hit the ceiling.

My neuropathy started with pins and needles and later included stabbing pains and burning feet. The symptoms got much worse at night and often prevented sleep, or woke me up at 3am. At the time they started (2013-4) my HbA1c was probably around 42 or 43.

The symptoms went very quickly after I put my BG back to low-normal levels in 2020. I still have a residual mild tingle, which has lasted for nearly four years now, and which is probably permanent (but not painful) damage.

One thing you need to be aware of is that while neuropathy is associated with T2, it can also be caused by other conditions, which I imagine your GP will want to rule out.
