I think in the end it's only you who can decide whether a given thing is working for you.

There are some who say (and some that I really respect) that the rate of spiking is really not so important - it just focuses attention on the sugar, when the real problem is the insulin response, and that's ultimately about the amount of sugar, whether really fast or delayed a bit. I don't know though. I think the thing that's working is the best plan.

I know that early on, when I was clueless but wearing a GCM and injecting insulin, (I was diagnosed T1 for a while) I used to report back to the support team "it isn't really about the absolute level, I feel ill when the level is changing rapidly. I didn't know it, but I was describing the spiking.

I feel much better overall now, with low BG all the time, and my belief is holding my insulin levels low all the time, is reversing my insulin resistance.

Overall, my sense is that just not eating the carbs in the first place will have the greater effect than anything to do with order; eating leafy greens first.. but I do that as well, simply because I've come to enjoy a layer of Rocket with olive oil and salt and pepper on top of my chilli.. I just skip the rice as well.
