Hi all, a random question for you.

I'm one of those that suffer from the triple whammy of asthma, eczema and hayfever. My asthma can get very severe (is quite well controlled at the moment), hayfever is a pain but after being absent for many, many years my eczema has made a new appearance!
I am under a fair amount of stress at the moment but have been under much more pressure than this and my skin hasn't flared up..I'm wondering if raised bg's could cause it? As I mentioned before, I have no way of testing at the moment ( a situation soon to be rectified hopefully-some very kind people on this forum) so have no idea what my levels are.

I am itching all the time but particularly palms and back of hands, tops of feet (not the soles, the upper side) and inner ankles. I have actually scratched so much today it is now painful. :(

I am putting lots of aqeous cream on (forgot to mention it's very dry) but it doesn't stop the itching.

Has anyone else had a flare up of skin conditions that have been dormant for ages?

Ta muchly. :)

I've had hay-fever all my life with occasional bouts of eczema and in the latter years intermittent asthma set in.

I have Ventolin (puffer and nebules for the nebuliser when severe) to treat the asthma as needed, Telfast 120 (fexofenadine 120mg) to assist with the hay-fever and I keep Dermovate to thinly smear any skin flare-ups when needed.

I seem to cope very well with the inflictions and found than an air ionizer by my bed helps both asthma and hay fever at night.
The worst time with asthma is when a simple cold hits me and then I have to resort to a cortisone puffer (Clenil Modulite 250) to prevent it leaving me with a lung infection, but if it does then I keep cefalexin antibiotics (7 day course) for swift treatment.

As will all three afflictions, stress can make things worse so the best approach is don't get het up and take it in your stride as it comes at you.
Don't forget that tight BG control = less itching, so watch your test results.

Hobs, I smacked my computer screen coz of that fly!

Before diagnosis I was getting lots of itching on my shoulders and legs, I scratched to the point of bleeding. I since learnt that high blood sugar does cause itching and so far I've not had any recurrence of this. I found Johnsons baby moisturiser and also their bubble bath was a good cheap soother.

Thanks for the replies (and yes, I tried to swat the wee irritating fly as well!)

We sound quite similar Hobs. I have been on life support a few times with my asthma but I usually manage to keep it under a degree of control often with the help of corticosteroids.
Regarding stress, I hear what you are saying but when the stress is caused by the health and welfare of a daughter with a disability it isn't possible to take it in my stride unfortunately, I do wish I could avoid getting het up but it's not easy.
As I mentioned in my post I am unable to test my BG's at present and would love to know what is happening on that front, I have a strong suspicion that they are significantly raised. Now if I knew where I stood with the Bg's I could adjust diet accordingly but apparently I don't need to test. Pffft. Don't get me started on THAT one.

To Gappy my fellow screen swatter, for some reason I can't use the baby products, they always irritate me. This is definitely eczema not just dry skin so I think I may need to get a mild steroid cream to calm it down. It's just odd that has reoccured after all this time.

Such is lfe I guess!

Sea Salt Bath

Sea salt bath not only helps to remove dead skin cells and restore beauty to damaged skin, but it is also a perfect cure for eczema. Sea salt is rich in minerals and helps to reduce pain, sooth inflammation, improve circulation and hydrate tissues. You can make whole body baths or just small amounts of water for local treatment. For a whole body bath add 1 to 2 cups of unrefined high quality sea salt to a warm bath tub. You can add some natural herbal oils to the bath to make it even more soothing. Make sure the water is not too hot. Soak in the bath for at least 15 minutes. Sea salt baths will also detox your body by widening skin pores and letting you sweat without skin irritation.

Aloe Vera Juice

Aloe Vera is a miracle plant - it can cure burns, reduce inflammation, sooth itching and moisturize your skin. Aloe Vera can sometimes give you relief in a matter of minutes. If possible, you should try to obtain your own Aloe Vera plant and get the fresh juice from its leaves. If that is not possible, try to find a 99.9% pure Aloe Vera juice from your store. You can apply Aloe Vera juice multiple times a day to cure eczema.
