Just watch out for the below ground veg.. they are usually the higher carb veggies.I'm a happy camper, not going to starve, lolLove that my fave vegies are on that list I got on the American Diabetes Association (if they can be trusted )
I actually forgot, but it's not unusual for my cholestrol to be off the charts, imo. It was 330 total in whole numbers. I tried to use your link but having brain fog I guess. Anyway, it's bad "genetically" the nurse says but I brought it down into the 200s with diet back a few years. I just feel overwhelmed right now. I'm mourning the loss of bread and crackers because I'm too afraid to even try any, and my stomach/bowels (sorry ;( ) is giving me grief which I NEVER had, or rarely til these pills ;( I do see what you've been through so I am a bit ashamed to complain about how "I" feel ;(yep hear that, only as and when really necessary here too.

Metformin commonly has digestive distress as a side effect. It should settle within a couple of weeks. If it doesn’t go back and ask for the slow release version which is usually an improvement. Some people simply don’t get on with them. Some find they don’t need them once they find low carb.I actually forgot, but it's not unusual for my cholestrol to be off the charts, imo. I googled just that earlier!! I was happy to see there are such things, but I love you giving me a recipe because the ones I saw like Dave's I think is one brand, are very expensive. Then some I saw on Amazon don't even deliver to my area, so thank you soooo muchThere are breads which are only 4gm of carb per, admittedly small slice, and there are recipes on line for low carb breads to make yourself.
Crackers can be made which are low carb.
I use a cup of almond flour (I grind ground almonds or whole ones and sieve the result) then one cup of any seeds I have, sesame, pumpkin, sunflower, chia - usually several different ones. a pinch of salt a teaspoon of herbs, then mix to a dough with hot water. Let it cool enough to handle and use olive oil or coconut oil to coat the ball of dough (which is usually quite sticky) so the dough can be rolled out thin, on a baking tray then cook at 160 degrees. Check after 10 minutes or less until you know how they cook in your oven. I let them cool in the oven then break into bits. I usually plan to each 1/3rd of the recipe, but it isn't a disaster if I eat the lot.
If I am not planning to eat them with cheese I do sometimes add in some grated cheese.
If you are wanting to keep carbs as low as possible then adding a little psyllium flour will bulk it out a bit.
Hi @HSSS Well I did look into Ketosis finally, found a video, or imo. I was surprised to see that if the body is in Ketosis it can feel tired, and headache. That's me in a nutshell. He said it's because the body getting used to burning fat-stores in stead of carbs. Both blood glucose (fingerprick and needle draws can be measured this way) and hb1ac are valid tests. But they are different and tell you different things.
Hi @Resurgam ! I did try the almond flour bread vidio-recipe and it looked so good and tasted so bad, LOL!! Just bland, so I'm going to try another soon using a bit of SteviaThere are breads which are only 4gm of carb per, admittedly small slice, and there are recipes on line for low carb breads to make yourself.

Sounds like keto flu. It doesn’t Shelly last too long. A week or two at most. Yes it’s partly withdrawl and adaptation to burn fat not glucose, but often made much worse but not enough fluids or electrolytes (magnesium and potassium as well sodium). Carbs hold water which in turn holds electrolytes. Also less processed foods often drops these even further. Have a think if your diet is rich in these things and if not significantly up them or take a supplement or two to test the theory. It can make people feel much better in hours. Magnesium helps with the constipation as does more fats for many people.Hi @HSSS Well I did look into Ketosis finally, found a video, or imo. I hope it doesn't last long, and he also mentions constipation which I've had with cramping, bloating. It makes sense. I mean 68 years basically of eating carbs and than cutting back to none much of the meals, and only the ones with 5 or below in one serving which I stick to. I mean like carrots etc. or that Yogurt I bought, Greek but did read the label to be sure.
So I want to know more about Keto, sounds like what I'm trying to do and just didn't know itThanks again for you info, Denise
I didn't quite understand what you were saying @HSSS, which things do I need to supplement and I definitely will. I get the Magnesium, more of that is needed. I only take 100 a day. I've taken a lot more over past years because thought it would help my tremor so I tolerate certain types really well. Been eating my fats, usually in my Olive Oils, cheese, butter, and not shy of it on any of my meat, just cook it up and eat it. Looks like you are telling me to take/get more electrolytes, Potassium (have a bunch of that I believe in powder form) and more salt?Sounds like keto flu. It doesn’t Shelly last too long. Really can't thank you enough @VashtiB Just feeling much more calm now. I was so excited to have that meter get delivered today and I am wondering how often I should test. I read that people usually test when they first get up in the a.m., then before a meal, and 2 hours after. That's 4 times a day. Hopin that might be enough. I must have some foods in there I shouldn't, or, too much.
I workout along with my walking, and for my height, weight and age, I have a TDEE (Total Daily energy expenditure). Hope I got that right, but anyway, so I try to stick with that and have been at a good weight until about 3 months ago. I just went nuts baking etc. but I am fortunate I don't gain much. I'm at 132 now, which most I think is around my mid section. So now I have to change my fat, protein and carb %'s which isn't too hard, but maybe need to go lower. I guess we'll see
Thank you again, Denise
