I wonder if, or when SDN will recommend eliminating wheat and GF foods for better blood sugar control especially for Type 1.

Do you mean Diabetes Specialist Nurse?
I am Type 2 but my intake of any sort of grain as very low - some weeks I might get down to zero.
From time to time I use gluten for baking, but that is just a couple of times a year - it is the carbs I need to look out for.
As a rule I do not anything with over 10% carbs, makes it a lot easier to keep my numbers normal.
Grains were not really part of the Human diet until a few thousand years ago, not even the blink of an eye in terms of our evolution.

IMO, gluten-free variants of foods are no better for type 1's, I am T1 and Coeliac, and I know GF bread, GF pasta, GF everything else things do not tend to have less carbs (some may just because), sometimes they have more, especially if you're looking at cakes
And mostly what they do is make my wallet hurt more and make it more awkward to buy/get food, and I'm also sure it doesnt taste as nice just to throw salt in the wound!

Or were you mostly just thinking low carb stuff rather than specifically wheat/gluten-free
