End of honeymoon?

A couple of months ago I increased my daily Lantus from 10 units to 12 units and - over the past week - I have had to ramp it up even more (took 16 units last night).

I'm still seeing my levels naturally rising but I also find that my meal ratios have changed significantly (it is now more like 1 unit NovoRapid to 10g carbs rather than the 1 unit to 20g I saw before). Is this normal?

I don't know why, but I had assumed that ending honeymoon would push up Lantus but not impact quick acting doses; but having said that maybe my Lantus is still too low so once it's at the right level I will see my quick acting ratios go back down again....

Also, using the Lantus dose calculator (https://www.lantus.com/hcp/dosing-titration/dosing-calculator) it seems to suggest that, for my weight, 12 units is the correct dose....anyone else taking more than this recommends as "normal"? Given I am pretty active (run multiple times a week and often long distances) I thought, if anything, I would be sitting under the recommended dose.

According to the dose calculator, I needed a lot less Lantus than I was on, when I used it, too. I'd be inclined to take what it says with a large pinch of salt.

When I was on Lantus I found that in the cooler months my dosage increased, I remember posting on here as it puzzled me that it had increased so much I think it went up by a third, took a few weeks to unravel the mystery, and looking back I honestly think it was a simple as adjusting to cooler weather, so this may be the case for you too.

I was the same but didn't go up by as much as a third, roughly around -/+ 2-3u difference between winter and summer.

According to the calculator I should be on 19 units, I'm actually on 26 but I found taking that much at tea time I was getting a surge in the early hours and giving me a hypo so split my doses into 2 x 13's split 7am/pm I find that works best for me I find I wake up to around 4.5 the next day regardless.

I haven't been moved over fast acting insulin yet and it's been at least 5 months since I was diagnosed with T1 but I do find eating some foods can push me in to the high teens during the day.

Wow, if you are Type 1, on 26 unit of Lantus and sometimes peak into the high teens after eating then it's very odd that you're not on the basal bolus regime ... I'd be speaking to my consultant/DSN about getting on to NovoRapid ASAP: spiking into the teens is not good at all. At the very least tightening your control now can help prolong your honeymoon period. IMO it's extremely irresponsible of your health care team not to have moved you on to fast acting insulin.

As I said in another post I had the flu jab and felt unwell, after eating lunch at work checked my levels I was the below, I rechecked on my other finger and it dropped by 10 which I found strange.

I have only seen my DSN once when I was diagnosed they said they would be in constant contact but not one call, I mad an appointment last week to see them only to turn up and it was a local who had no experience with diabetes so I left. Feel a bit like I have fell through the system.

I can relate to that, I was diagnosed on 4th August at the age of 35, I was in hospital with DKA for 4 days and have seen my DSN once since! I have seen a dietitian once but she told me she was new to diabetes. My Gp has been great and emailed the diabetes centre and I got an almost immediate phonecall and an appointment within a week. I feel my honeymoon period may be over too and I've just hit the realisation that this is for life and I'm struggling a bit. Although I haven't posted before I have really appreciated all the advice from this site and the forums,

Caroline.
