Hi Everyone
I was watching an episode of QI in which a reply to a question was that "the juice from a steak is called Myoglobin which is responsible for releasing blood sugar when there is a sudden energy burst."
I had been pre-diabetic for about 18 months and on my last visit to the doctor for a blood test, after fasting, my blood sugar level was over 8 so a drug was prescribed for the first time. My question is as I am 75 and for the last twenty years I have never broke sweat in any activity. If, by my standards, I had an unusual burst of energy to get to the surgery on time, which is a mile walk with the last 100 yards being uphill could this activity have caused an increase in blood sugar level that would ruin the average reading?
If this is the case could this explain why some people have faulty readings when doing a home blood sugar test if their equipment is stored upstairs in the bathroom and they climb the stairs which releases more blood sugar before doing the self test?
Any opinions would be appreciated especially if the consensus is that the doctor was too quick in reaching for his prescription pad.
Kindest regards
