May I have a bit of a rant please?!!!

So in February I lost my job - GREAT! April I got diagnosed with Diabetes - HURRAH! Yesterday I was given notice on my accommodation - YIPEEEE!!

What else can go wrong now!!! I just don't need this right now - and I just about have had enough. The last 6 months have been one long uphill struggle with any number of authorities, doctors and so-called health care professionals. Now, of all times I need to find somewhere else to live! I am penniless thanks to unemployment, council say I am not qualified for emergency accommodation, I am not entitled to any help what-so-ever because (1) I am a single adult without dependants, (2) I am in private accommodation and (3) the "system" is geared towards families and single parents. So there!!

I have applied for over 700 job (!!) and nothing - neither Sainsbury, Tesco or Asda will employ me as "I will just leave went a more suitable job comes up and they can employ 60+ staff who will stay"!! Well thank you - so being educated is being punished now!! GREAT!!

I am fed up to my back teeth - I have no more fight left in me. I give up!!

Unless something magic happens, it looks like I am spending the winter in my car!!

Hmmmm . .... which way to the Grand Canyon??

Alice

(rant over, but VERY depressed by it all)

Hi Alice.

I am so sorry to hear of all your problems. As regards housing, try your local housing associations. I was in a similar position and soon managed to get a very nice flat in a nice location through one of them.

There are many different ones all over the country. Your situation is just the sort of thing that they can accomodate. Try this link for a list of HA's in your area Surrey.

Best of luck.

Alice, my heart aches for you, sometimes there doesn't seem to be any purpose to life. You know better though don't you, look what you HAVE accomplished in the last six months. I know you feel as if all the fight has gone out of you, but there WILLL be a job, there WILL be a home, and it must get better for such a positive lady. Ken has given you a great lead, and I know if good wishes carry any weight, the feelings of people within this forum will help you to overcome this present misery.
I wish you good fortune
Val

Hello,

I'm so sorry to hear you've been through the mill. You might want to visit your local Citizens Advice Bureaux - they are a charity and can help with anything and everything. They have access to information on housing, welfare, employment, training etc and I've found them really friendly in the past.

You might also want to consider volunteering for a charity. Jobs often come up that aren't advertised outside small organisations. It's also a good way to broaden your experience and keep your confidence and skills up. I run a charity and we are always looking for fantastic volunteers!

I'm sorry to hear you are having such a rough time, Alice.

Contact your local Shelter, which is where the CAB will send you. Shelter will be able to advise you
- out your rights in your current accomodation - you have a lot more than you think,
- how much rent the Housing Benefit will cover, so you will have an idea of what you can afford,
- how you should present your case to the council - people are refused because they present the wrong info.

Also a council Housing Officer has to present you with the worst possible scenario - they are very good at this :? :( and your circumstances may have changed if you are now without a home or have been given date for the end of your tenancy. Shelter can advise. They are brilliant.

Hope things start to look up soon.

You need to LIE in your interview for Sainsburys/Asda, etc... Don't tell 'em that you're still looking for other work.

I wouldn't think twice about telling a little fib if a job depended on it!

Hope everything works out for you.

Oh Dear alice, you are having atough time and are right to have a rant.
The advice to see the CAB is good. Usually, they don't give up until they find a solution.

This is a very depressing situation and we are here to listen and hopefully give some good advice so you can feel motivated to take action which is vital. I don't know how long you have before you have to leave your accommodation but stay as long as you can so you can find a job because it much easier to find other accommodation if you have a job. A lady from CAB was very helpful to me when I needed advice and will advise you of your rights with view to accommodation rights where you are at present and any other advice that may be useful. As already suggested housing associations are worth contacting and with housing association accommodation there is more security if you lose your job again.
