erratic blood readings ?

Hi all, please answer me this (not Helen and Ollie), I have a 'One Touch Ultra Easy' blood reading machine and although my bloods are generally good (5-7 morning reading) today upon testing I read 9.6 I thought this wrong as last night for dinner all I had was grilled Haddock with a mushroom salad (5 pm) and one cream cracker around 8pm to take my last pill (glucophage 1000g), so I tested again 2 mins later 8.4, still high so tested again 7.8 better but one last try, this came in at 7.2.
All tests were done within 5 minutes of the first, hands washed and new lancet and test strips .
Can anyone please tell me why this happens it has happened before but never really bothered before to find out why..

The high reading initially could have been a glucose liver dump ( Google dawn phenomenon ) as you possibly were low on carbs from the previous night ? As for the numbers dropping, they could have been naturally dropping anyway. Other factors may be something on your skin ? Did you clean your fingers ? There is a 20% tolerance on the monitors as well. Lastly, you could try the test solution if you have any. It usually comes with the monitor. It tells you if the machine is reading between certain numbers.
Do you have a spare machine you could try ?
 
Hi Mo, thanks for the reply, yes I was thinking of the dump as a factor, and washed fingers and dried in paper towel each time will try again in the morning but have to get spare battery for old machine to test with as well as for the test solution mmmmm gonna have to source some I think :thumbup:
 
Are you having to squeeze the blood out? This can increase the reading for reasons I know not.


Diagnosed Type II 1998 1 x 80 mg Gliclazide, 4 x 500mg Metformin and 1 x 100mg Sitagliptin - HbA1c - 48 mmol/mol
 
If you test with a new lancet on clean warm hands the blood should come out without needing to squeeze.
