hello!

It seems erythritol and stevia are the best sweeteners. Yet I see most diabetic products infested with the horrible maltitol.

Why is that? Is it hard to develop a product with erythritol or they (as usual) want to make a profit out of our health?

I cannot find products with erythritol, apart from the Sukrin chocolate, which is tasty, but I would like a marmalade with erythritol and chocolate covered nuts with erythritol

any idea?

thanks!

@greener asked about something similar. Perhaps he will know :watching:

You could cover Brazil nuts in dark chocolate or put nuts in truffle recipe?

I would buy it, I am extremely sensitive to maltitol. One bite is enough to send me to the facilities.

I buy a big tub of erythritol every couple of months, and have loads on strawberries and use it in low carb ice cream. It seems to be absorbed in small intestine, so no horrible GI effects, and no spikes for me.

Maltitol (and Lactitol/isomalt) are horrible for GI side effects. I got hooked on cavalier chocolate with maltitol in the past, and paid the price.

However, cavalier have just brought out a big range of stevia sweetened chocolate. On list of ingredients, also has erythritol, inulin, but nothing nasty. I think it is delicious, doesn't spike me much, gut fine. Available from avidlite website - I can highly recommend. Obviously, extortionately expensive, but all low carb products seem to be.

I think it all comes down to price. Erythritol is not cheap. I know, I buy the stuff.
Best deals I have found are in the cut throat arena of Amazon. ;)

Also, it is bulky. At only 2/3 the sweetness of sugar, you have to add more to get the same flavour.

I am not in the UK so we seem to have different products other than the basics. I have just been avoiding chocolate as I dont care for dark. Sometimes I make fat bombs with bakers chocolate, coconut oil, butter, almond butter, and almond flavored sugar free syrup which is splenda without the carriers so truly no carb. These are very high fat and calorie so I don't eat them often, but they are yummy.
