Covid19 is something everyone is worried about, although I have heard some very gung ho friends saying things like "bring it on" "so what, it's no worse than the flu". I think those of us with a compromised immune system, to whatever degree, will have a slightly different view.

I'm playing devils advocate because I've been reading something about the effect of us having now left the European Medicines Agency. Exactly how do we now go about possibly developing a vaccine, do we have the resources? What regulation is in place to release this vaccine to the market? Where do we stand getting vaccine from Europe seeing as Boris wants nothing to do with Europe?

Another thing, these respirators that are going to be made as if by magic. I think we need more than a respirator for serious cases of pneumonia.

I don’t know but i would expect all countries are joining together to create and share everything they know about any potential vaccine. China and countries in the east are not part of the European Medicine Agency but will be working closely with everyone. Its in no ones interest to be insular when it comes the sharing this research.

The only question is if the UK has enough production facilities to create enough of such vaccine quickly once approved. When it comes to that everyone will be very insular until their own populations are safe.

In the news the EU countries to pool their resources in the fight against Covid 19 including medical equipment the export of such equipment to non EU countries will be banned.

Well, when trump is trying to buy exclusive access to a potential vaccine for USA only, I suspect our post Brexit “great ally” isn’t going to be terribly helpful. And as sadly Britain decided they didn’t want any part of the EU, we’re about to realise what a desolate and small lump of rock in the Atlantic we really are. I’m not expecting much “blitz spirit” from a country that hoards toilet paper and rings 999 when KFC runs out of chicken...

I wouldn't totally disagree with most of this.
With the NHS "selling out" for possibly the last 30 years (see the documentary "the great NHS heist.") & reported secret talks with the American pharmacy industry, possibly locking the UK into a "deal" contractually excluding the competitively priced & on our doorstep EU pharma industry.

We may well be heading for an American health care model..? :banghead:

Sadly I think this is wishful thinking.

You know that, I know that, but does our government know that? There's the problem, it's us who are being insular. It is the UK who have decided not to participate in EU institutions after its withdrawal from the EU on 31 January 2020. That includes the EMA.

For EMA, this means that as of 1 February 2020, no one who represents the UK, or is appointed or nominated by the UK can participate in any EMA scientific committee meeting, working party meeting or in the Agency’s Management Board.

I'm told that there is a UK equivalent that mirrored the EMA, it's called the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency. In fact it used to occupy the same offices in London, until the EMA moved to Amsterdam. They shared offices and employees. Although mostly British, I wonder how many are now sipping coffee in an Amsterdam coffee shop?
