Excessive urination causing thirst

If you urinate a normal output in 24 hours (1.5 liters) but go frequently is this not considered polyuria , I am taking a lot of trips to the toilet (8-10 a day) but not excreting massive amounts
I'm not diagnosed with diabetes im just curious that i have it
Ive had tests such as finger prick test , random blood glucose and urine dipstick test which have all been normal but ive seen some people say these tests aren't accurate at all?

If you take a diuretic in your diet you can have lots of loo visits without having diabetes. Tea and/or coffee are the usual candidates because of the caffeine in them as well as them being mostly liquid.

Hi. The finger prick test which is effectively the same as a random test if taken 2 hours after a meal is a fairly good measure. It's best if it's repeated once or twice with different meals. If the reading is over 8.5mmol then there is a strong hint of diabetes and a Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) or even an HBa1C is the next stage of testing to confirm. I can't comment on polyuria etc.

Thanks , My results were :
Random Blood Glucose - 4.9
Finger Prick Test - 6.1
Urine Dipstick Test - Normal

The doctor kind of assured me i don't have diabetes but i'm still anxious that i need to go back again and have further testing

From your results, it really doesn't sound like you have diabetes. Out of interest, why are you worried you might have it? Have you any other symptoms? Are you overweight or underweight?

Im 16 and slightly underweight , My only symptom is Frequent but not excessive urination. Im worried I have it because I am urinating about 8-10 times a day and the tests that I have had ive seen people say they aren't that reliable

From Leon's previous post it sounds as though he has been to the doctor, had tests (no reason to not trust these if done by a GP) and been told he doesn't have diabetes.I asked about weight as in type 1 someone would usually have lost a lot of weight and have a raging thirst, feel very tired and be passing a lot of urine. If still worried, I suggest he goes back to the doc and has a chat about his concerns.(maybe seeing another doctor in the practice) There could be other reasons for the frequent urination, including stress/anxiety/diet but I'm pretty sure it's nothing as serious as diabetes. Does anyone in your family have diabetes Leon?

Really Appreciate the replies luckystar
I'm debating going back to the doctors but ive been so many times I feel like they wont even take me seriously because im so anxious
Nobody that i know of in my family has ever had diabetes
Due to my recent test results is there any need for further testing such as the Hb1ac or an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test? My doctors don't seem to think so
