I was diagnosed with Impaired Glucose tolerance five years ago, since then I have attempted to 'stick to the rules' I have however, experienced frequent night sweats during sleep especially after drinking alcohol, even small amounts. I have also started to experience what I can only describe as pulse beats in the head, anybody had a similar experience? or can anyone explain it.

I get the night sweats from alcohol and high sugar/high carb foods. Similar to menopausal hot flushes, I've heard, but that joy is yet to come.

For me, any enjoyment I get from the odd drink is far outweighed by the sleep disruption that follows.

Can't comment on the pulse beats though...

Have you got a blood glucose meter? It would allow you to test your blood glucose when the next sweaty wake-up happens.

If you haven't got one, they are very easy to buy over the internet, and some are very reasonably priced.

Just out of curiosity, have you had your blood pressure checked lately? Other than that, no idea I'm afraid.

Interesting, I've never noticed the night sweats...which is really quite surprising considering how bad my diet was until recently.

I got really bad ones in the throat and part of the reason l went to the Dr thinking it was menopause was also the throat palpations.
Longest session was around 6hrs. l do not nor have l had high blood pressure.

l have had occassional head palpations over the years but usualy when extreme tired or bad headache.

l was sent for a 24hr monitor then the consultant then ecg and ecg and excercise tolerance and heart scan.

Nothing wrong and in fact now l have my bloods under tight control the only time l get a few lasting a 20sec +/- at most and a few times a day is
a) When l get very stressed
b) Just before my monthlies start which is also when it is best to tiptoe past me :-|

Go to the dr just because mine was nothing doesnt mean it may not be. The consultant offered me antidepressants (well assume he said calming tablets or some such damm fool comment) to calm me down...lots of people take up his offer l snarled 3x l didnt want his tablets before he realised l was about to get very personal with where he could place his offer when he realised and shut up.

The pulse sensation could be anything from bp to anxiety, better to have your Dr check you out just to put your mind at rest.

You could just be sensitive to your pulse.

If I concentrate I can feel my heart beating in my chest, sense my pulse in my head and neck.

However, as @noblehead says, if this is an unusual thing for you, best to get it checked out.

Thank you everybody for your responses I appreciate them. I did a home blood pressure measurement and found that during those periods when I was experiencing pulsations in my head my blood pressure was' sky high'. Looks like its the alcohol causing it. Hate the thought of having to give it up, Thanks again.

Well giving up alcohol is a small price to pay for good health. You should still see your gp and have them measure your bp, might be that you need to start on bp medication if lifestyle changes don't lower it. Good luck!!!!

Those pulse beats in your head could also be occurring during the day time. Night times are so much quieter than day times, unless you have inconsiderate neighbours, and the distraction of every day sounds means that they are less noticeable.

I went to see my GP about high BP this week and is seems like the standard investigation is to have a 24 hour BP done before they'll prescribe anything. Just got my letter today for an appointment on 18th to get monitor fitted, so you shouldn't need to wait too long. I always thought GP did 24 hour BP but turns out I have to go to thecardiology dept at the hospital. Great...I hate hospitals, and now I have 3 appointments there that week :nailbiting::meh:

I saw my GP on Tuesday, mentioned my occasional sudden BP drops. She wanted me to have the 24hr monitor (which is actually 12 hours as we don't need to wear them in bed). Had it fitted Thursday by the Health Care Assistant at the Practice. Wore it all day Thursday, returned it Friday morning, HCA rang me 2 hours later with the results. Average 116/67. How's that for service?

Fantastic service. I was hoping mine was going to be like that but seems it's the cardiology department who do it, and he wants to do overnight testing (I suppose that's the best case, so if it's high then it's going to be high at other times). Can't imagine I'm going to get much sleep with that beast of a machine going though. He did say most of the time the results come back fine.

Frustratingly though, I'll be changing GP the weekend just after the test (not through choice) - I do hope the results get to me. I'll have to see if they'll send me a copy of them as I don't want them disappearing down the cracks.

Mine drove me mad just during the day. It bleeps then blows up the cuff with the usual noise every half an hour. I suggest you stay indoors all day! You also need to wear a coat or jacket when you go for the fitting, or you will be out in public with the cuff on, the meter round your neck and shoulder, and wires everywhere! No way could I have slept with it on.

Oh great, so I'm going to look like something from a Sci-Fi movie then? Marvellous! The letter did say to wear loose clothing, so I was just going to go with a vest top and cardigan, and hope the pesky thing doesn't beep and blow my arm up on the walk back to the car. With any luck, they'll tell me when I get there that it's only a 12 hour test. Fingers crossed...
