Type 1 Extreme fatigue after hypo

Hi. On occasions I have extreme fatigue following a hypo. I’m talking about not really being able to move that much at all. This happened again last night. Had to drag myself to bed very early and have slept most of today. Also had to take the day off work.
My diabetic consultant has explained in the past that as I’m getting older this can happen as not only do my glucose levels drop when having a hypo but also potassium levels. It’s an awful feeling and seems to affect my mental health as well.
Does anyone have this experience and how do you treat it. Would taking potassium supplements help?

Hi @MrNigel
I've had bad reactions in the past after very severe hypos. Luckily I haven't had any bad ones recently. For me, it's more like feeling hungover or wiped out for the following day, though it doesn't sound as bad as what you describe.

Can I ask how low you go to generate these symptoms and whether your clinic are doing anything to help you avoid the hypos?

Hi @EllieM thank you for responding. it wasn’t even a severe hypo. Went down to about 3.2 but took around 50 mins to come back up again. Treated it appropriately. I don’t have too many hypos these days since being on a dexcom and omnipod 5 pump. Most of the time when I have a hypo I can bounce back from it without issue however on around 5 occasions this year I have non days. Like I described where I have zero energy and just stare at the walls. It is horrible. Usually lasts for 24 hours but can last two days. My consultant explained about potassium levels and it effecting me more now I’m old but no one has given me any solutions.
