Hello All. Just joined thr forum, but have been a type 2 sufferer for a number of years.
My query is in relation to the shelf life of the test strips. My meter is a Advantage and aquired from my GP on a periodic nature,(sharps and strips).
The question is --Do these test strips have a certain length of time in which they are pretty accurate,or do they lose this accuracy over a period of time. My last batch, have a date of 2011-11on them but my readings have suddenly gone sky high,eg,24.5 is the lowest as of 09.00am Sat morning(25/2/12) Or am I looking for excuses?
I must admit I am not the best at "being good"

Any advice or constructive ideas will be greatfully accepted, then my next step will be back to the Sawbones,to see what he has to say about it ,More pills and potions I fear. :)

Might be you're a bad boy, but strips do have a sell by and go off. With your meter, you should have some testing fluid to see if the strips have gone or not. Suggest you give that a go. If you don't have the fluid, the manufacturer will send you some. Bayer sent me some in-date testing fluid free by next day.

It's possible but unlikely only a couple of months after the expiry date (there must be some tolerance built in).

But the truth is you know anyway don't you? It takes a bit of effort to pull a 25mmol/l...

Depending on the meter the coding chip you insert with each new box has an expiry date built in which will alert you when the test strips expire.
