Sorry to hear that. I would rather loose a leg or arm than have any problems with my eyes. I had extensive eye exams (a few years ago) about something else and that was all fine, so I hope it's ok still. I had the most amazing photos of the inside of my eyes and ones that looked like volcanoes.

Hope it goes well for you, I had mine last month, and it didn't turn out to good, fingers crossed for you, let us know

Paul & Alison, what did not turn out good? Did you have issues you were aware off? blurred vision? Or any other symptoms? if you have issues now you have been told do your eyes still feel the same?

hi Biohazard

Not unusual to wait for a few months from diagnosis, they don't like to do it early as your BG should come down and it could make the test redundant if it improves things.

It's not unknown for people to revert to old prescriptions.(from years b4 even)

When you say - not sure how you feel about it - do you mean what to expect or worried it may not be good?

if it's the former I can re-assure you. its a normal eye test with the Glaucoma thing, they then give you drops (didn't hurt) to dilate the pupils then take pics. My optician showed me the results and said no changes see in 12 months, however when I got the letter from the retinopathy screening people it said minor changes see in 12 months. Others on here have reported similar situs, I'm not worried re that as the end result was the same.

You can't drive after it. Take sunglasses with you for on the way home as eyes more sensitive to light and heaven forbid if we got a bit of sun

Just a little worried for results and what they find, if anything. Tests themselves don't worry me, as I said I have had extreme testing on my eyes before for other reasons so have had them poked, prodded, numbed, photographed etc.don't particularly liked drops in m eyes, but can't have everything.

My wifey and son are coming with me so not driving and I don't own sun glasses, never have done. :D

Try not to worry Bio and here's hoping all goes well :)

Had my eye test today, gotta wait a week for results.......I hate waiting....

Hi hope it all goes well for you, I didn't have to wait at all for my results he told me there and then, yes i have diabetic retinopathy, but lets hope losing weight, whenever that happens, and getting BS under control turns it round for me. But I am with you on the waiting game, I hate having to wait for anything

I asked what he thought but did not say anything other than it needs to be sent away and be checked against previous images, this is my first one, there is no previous images!!!!!!!

I asked the nurse lady before the photos when she eye dropped me, oh and also I read the last set of letters on eye chart with both eyes no problem :D anyway she said they would not say as all mages are checked by 3 doctors to ensure nothing is missed. So iftar th case at least it's checked thoroughly.

Same here Alison,I was told there and then what they'd found and a consultants appointment would be required very soon,I knew something wasn't right anyway when the Nurse made me do a simple eye chart test prior to the drops being applied, one eye perfect, the other eye, well, could only read the first row which has never been a problem before.

Interesting, as mentioned just before drops they did the eye tests and I could read the bottom row no problems with both eyes, so hopefully that and maybe the fact he did not say anything could possibly be a good sign, I would have hoped If anything bad was seen he would have said so or at least said make an appointment ASAP.

The guy that did mine said the results would be with me within the following fortnight....I got them within 2 days!! Thankfully all okay again this time too.

All the best
Angie

I am waiting for an appointment, and while I don't think I have any problems, it is an anxious time. Fingers crossed all is well when you get your results, but judging by other peoples experiences, no news is good news.

Did they run through your photo's with you after they taken them?

Our screening, they run through the photograph, and they can actually pull up last years as well, never had a problem, so don' know if they can book you straight into the consultant or not, but I would assume that if they saw something major then they send you of to the emergency eye clinic (doesn't need an appointment). Our hospital works on a system that after they've been done, they get check again by another qualified person, before you get your results back/confirmed, take about a week t get the letter..

They also pull random photo's from every clinic, and these are then checked at top level to ensure that everybody is picking up and problems for quality control!

What I do has well, is arrange for my normal opticians eye test for 6 months after my screening, as part of the standard eye test is checking out the back of the eyes for any potential problems brewing!

Diabetic eye screening was only brought in to catch those who didn't bother to ensure they had their yearly opticians eyes test..

When they speak of a onsultant's appointment this would probably be quite unusual. You are normally referred to the eye clinic under the care of " a particular consultant bu this does not mean tthat you are likely to see the consultant anytime soon.

It is more lkely you will have further checks repeaed at say - 3 monthly intervals to check your progress. Its all about picking problems up earlier. A referral does not mean that there is something badly amiss , more that hey wish to check the siuaion more closely so that problems can be deal with more quickly.

The screening is picking up more poential problems but mny are discharged after a ime if there is no further deterioration.

Had my first eye test for 11 years since having them lazered, having been short sighted and worn glasses for 30+ years to find that there was no degradation whatsoever nor any potential diabertic complications so well pleased. Do get halos around car headlights whilst driving at night but only minimally, never caused me a problem whilst thrashing it down to Looe at night. Best thing i ever had done.
