iive just had my yearly eye check and needed glasses again it seems i have to have new glasses every year as my eyesight is going bad because of my diabetes is there any help we can get for cost of glasses does anyone know. and can someone tell me how diabetes effect your eyes pls

Can't help with advice about costs, but in a nutshell, the only way to protect your eyes from future damage is to keep good control of your diabetes. This together with watching your blood pressure is normal, and eating a well balanced diet.

did they say you needed new glasses because of your diabetes? I have worn glasses sincce I was 11 and most years i've needed new ones. Nowadays I only get them every 2 years, because of cost.
I developed T2 in my 50s. When I was 11 and growing fast, I got progressively more short sighted. Now I'm developing the long sight you get as you age. Nothing to do with diabetes at all.

Unfortunately the only financial assistance for diabetics is a free eye test, unless you are on certain state benefits, when there is some (but not complete) help with the cost of any lenses you might need. As Nigel said, the only long term solution is tight bg and pressure control.

If you Google "diabetic retinopathy" (or search within the forum), there is a wealth of information that will tell you all about diabetes and eye problems.

A cheaper option to getting new glasses is having the lenses replaced in your current pair.

Also a cheaper option is to get them through the internet, just google 'cheap glasses' .

From what I heard diabetes doesn't affect your eyesight as such, unless it is through retinopathic damage, in which case the optician would take stronge action and refer you to a specialist.
