what are your blood sugar readings like? many of us experience this when sugars are high, once you get them down your vision should return to normal, but we only get 1 pair of eyes so take no chances, get to the doc

As Andy says, blurred vision is a classic sign of high BG levels. If you've got a monitor, please test. If not, speak to your doc. As levels get down, vision usually gets back to normal.

you must test in my opinion, if the doc wont give you one, then youll have to buy your own, on amazon the sd codefree meter sounds the cheapest, either way testing is essential

@Scandichic, I, and several others on here get the cheapest BG meter we can - the Codefree one. You can order it online, this evening on Amazon or eBay. Cost you about 20 quid to be up and running with 50 test strips.

I cannot recommend self monitoring enough! It helps you see what eating certain foods is doing to your body. And gives you daily reasons to make better food choices.

The blurred vision you are getting is a sign that high blood glucose is significantly affecting you - and it will be affecting you in other, invisible ways too.

Have you read up on what healthy blood glucose levels are?

With those high figures I would be back at the doc's shouting from the rooftops that you should be Given a meter and free strips. You're on a low income i take it hon.

How do the doc's expect you to try to get your levels under control without the means to test the food you're eating. Don't pin your hopes on your dietician appointment being any good for you either Ally, they'll give you the Wrong information about what you should be eating.

You take it in your own hands, don't be timid, and if you cause a fuss and still aren't offered a free meter and strips, take it to your local MP, they do free sessions sometimes. It shouldn't be a postcode lottery. Some districts do offer free meters and strips to T2, so, INSIST that you desperately need one if you're to stand any chance of controlling your diabetes. Your figure is Shockingly high, and if it were me, I'd be causing a fuss, Everywhere, 'till I got a meter. Trouble is love, you look like you're a placid person that dosen't cause a fuss. You're going to have to toughen up and start sticking up for yourself. xx

Well, meantime, do your best to eat a low carb diet, loads of info on the site as to what you can have.

And please, try to insist on them providing you with a free meter and some strips. Some areas do give them to T"'s, so it should be available to you too. Maybe you won't get it if you don't kick up a fuss. I can understand they don't / can't give them out free to all newly diagnosed T2's, there's thousands being added to the list, but they may relax the rules for individual cases if you plead your case to them.

Good Luck. xx

My BG was on 17 and I was immediately given a meter. Nothing can teach you better how your BG relates to your food intake than monitoring your BG levels just before and 2 hours after every meal. We get them for free here, if you do too, then demand one from your doctor!

I also have blurry vision, started on Metformin 1½ week ago and on low carb high fat diet the following weekend. After a week, this Friday, it all got blurry and I suddenly cant read without glasses. Im hoping this should pass when my BG is down to normal and my eyes have gotten used to this.

Good luck!

Ally hi Hun I used to work in a optician I'm not a doc but the optician said it can take time to settle down that's why you should always wait to get a new pair of specs until your blood levels go down I have sympathy though with your blood levels but don't worry to much go to your docs explain this blurred vision then go to opticians

you can get blurry eyes because your BG is dropping too, I assume you are trying to cut your carbs
