Fallen off the wagon for months

Hello, I was diagnosed three years and for a year I was the ‘poster child for low carb’ - anyway last year I fell off the wagon - wife diagnosed with serious illness etc so no doubt lost in a bit of depression. I tested my bloods last week and they were 17.3 - my skin has been itchy, the thirst is back etc. I have gone back to low carb for the last three days but my blood have only moved to 15.6. Can anybody tell me how long it’s will take, roughly to keep back control or have I messed up so much it’s going to take ages. I also need to shift two stone.

Apart from that life topper!

I am so sorry to hear about your wife.

To try and answer your question as to how long it takes to keep back control, I guess it takes just taking it one day at a time. Like they say, it's a marathon, so having a goal of losing 2 stone means taking one step at a time.

Sounds to me like you're already making good progress with three days eating low-carb. Congratulations, and keep up the good work!

Life sometimes throws up stuff and we would not be human if we didn't react in some way to it especially if our loved ones are touched by ill health. I hope that your wife's health is more comfortable and wish you bothall the best.

Your bg levels should steadily reduce over the next few days, as you know your liver may have stored a little more fat which may affect the speed of the fall this time. Lowering carbs should still be your priority but be kind to yourself and give yourself a little time.

This is nothing compared to your wife's illness but we lost a dog in the last days of December, the second dog to go in 2018. As we have no children it hit us especially hard. I lost the plot, hit the Chinese big time.

I dread the o think what my next HbA1c is going to be.

At the end of February I have to give a talk to T2 diabetics (along with @Debandez) extolling the virtues of LCHF.

At the end of the day, honesty is the best policy. Life happens. We fall off the wagon for a variety of reasons. Move through your problems at your own pace and then climb back on.

Should I include a paragraph about my own failings in my talk? Hell yes. I am only human after all. We need to empathize with other people and problems they may face, not sit in judgement on them.

You are finding your way back to the straight and narrow, good on you.

Don't be too hard on yourself. You are doing great.

Hiya @SmudgeT

Life does throw some bad stuff our way sometimes, it's having the ability to bounce back which is important, it sounds like you're ready to bounce back :)
Check in with your DSN and get some support, talk to them about what you've been through, they will certainly help point you in the right direction, but it's also good to get those levels checked out too, as they may need to adjust your medication to put you on the right track.

@xfieldok Also a big hug from me, I dread to think how I would feel if I lost my dog, he comes everywhere with me, sat behind me as I type.
