Dear all

I have the problem of just falling over ,every so often ,my blood sugars are normal and I remain totally conscious throughout. The doctors are perplexed and so am I.

Does this happen to anybody else ? The diabetic nurse thinks that it may be due to nerve damage but I am not sure

Any thoughts or opnions will be most welcome

Hi @asteroth :)

I haven't had an experience like that but I did immediately think of ear problems. Has that been checked just to rule it out? And blood pressure, etc?

It doesn't sound very pleasant at all. I hope yourbdoctor gets to the bottom of what's causing it.

Hello @asteroth ,

I went through a stage of not being able to walk in a straight line. I had the feeling of jelly legs with wobbly ankles and would trip over due to the toes of one foot not lifting far enough of the ground when taking a step. With the agreement of my GP and Consultant I stopped taking the drug that was also causing muscle pain and memory loss. All the symptoms mentioned above disappeared.

Its happened to me a couple of times, mainly if I stand still for too long. Usually the culprit is my blood pressure.

Have you been checked for anything neurological?

I had something similar years ago. It was finally diagnosed as BPPV (look it up). In my case my head can get to a certain position (gimbal lock) where the eyes started shimmer and my balance goes. I always fell to the right for some reason that was never explained.

I ended up in the London Hospital inside a CAT scanner which didn't help. Upon leaving the doctor said that he could cut my balance nerve or else I could just get used to it. I have learned not to look up at a certain attitude since if I do the legs go.

This is never an easy thing to diagnose, I had 2 years of just falling to the ground, I wouldn't be able to get up for about 10 minutes. When it was discovered I had a tumour in ovary and this was removed, I haven't had same issue. It is funny how body reacts to different "illness". Get GP to refer you to Multi discipline team or a neurosurgeon falling over isn't normal, something as simple as a UTI can cause you to fall.
