Fasting glucose

Hi I'm newly diagnosed and this maybe a silly question but when people are diagnosed with diabetes will their fasting blood glucose levels taken at hospital always be high? Or can they be normal? Especially when your on glucose lowering meds etc.

If newly diagnosed the numbers will be higher than "normal" range. This could be anything from 8-30 or so. If you're already on BG lowering meds then I guess you'd have already been diagnosed ?

Yes already diagnosed, but they are doing another test to diagnose type 1 or 2, at the same time they are doing fasting glucose. I have been on meteor in for over 3 weeks now and wondered if this would make a difference to the fasting glucose levels as my home records have been going down finally. Or whether a diabetic will always have high fasting blood glucose?
 
Im type 2 and do not have a high fasting glucose now (no meds) but I did when diagnosed. Hopefully you can get back to a normal fasting level.

Thank you, do you also mean a hospital fasting test or your own?
 
I record it every morning and also record how many hours since eating - don't know if I will ever get the NHS to do another as they rely on the HBA1c but on diagnoses it was a hospital one.

I am seeing my DSN this Friday for my first 3 month HBA1c result so I will ask her about fasting again then. I have so many facts, figures, stats and graphs to give her I will blow her mind.
 
Once you start to gain control whether it be by diet/meds/exercise or a combination of, your fasting levels should come down too. As to tests to see whether T1 or not, that will probably be a GAD antibody test. Good luck.
