Not sure if im just worring over nothing but.

Diagnosed in December and was put on metf 500mg morning and night and a Low Carb diet, I was weighing in at almost 20 st then, As of this morning im down to 17.2 stone. Ive been really good and I also took up a couch to 5k thing. anyway if I check my bloods in the morning its usually 5.6 -6.2 ish (don't check every day) my diet is pretty much the same , I'm counting carbs but the last week or so I'm creeping up the numbers and todays was 7.6 . Could the weight loss mean I need to cut more carbs out of my diet and has anyone else come across issues like this with weight loss. I'd have though with the increased exercise it would go down not up and I'm just a little concerned.

Hi, you seem to be testing at different times during the day, how can you read into anything if you don't keep a record or a diary of what is happening to your blood glucose levels.
I would recommend testing before meals and two hours after, if you are below 2mmols from your pre meal reading that's good, if it's above then something you are eating or a combination is not right for you.
Keeping a diary you can see trends and see how well you are doing, and from what you say, you are.
Exercise can increase your blood glucose levels because your liver automatically feeds you more glucose to keep you going. As long as you don't overdo it, you should be fine, your levels should return to normal soon after.
It is always beneficial to reduce your carbs, till you find your optimum level to suit you, also reducing your plate size is good!

Could be a number of things that has raised your BG even without having any extra carbs, infections, colds the liver compensating when I over exercise my liver will provide an extra boost by dumping its stored energy which then hikes up my BG, don't be to alarmed it's a natural phenomenon.

Thanks, yes as I'm type 2 I only test it every couple of days but I do it as soon as I get up in the morning at roughly the same time. My food intake has gone down massively since finding out and I do track my food intake so I know im ok for that. I've been concerned about my carbs since I joined the forums but my Doctor tells me my diet is great and working so keep at it. its a rest day today so no running I will check it tomorrow and see if its back down again and maybe try cutting more carbs out. thanks all.

Hi @bridg3
Mate congratulations on the weight loss to date that is great work by you. Also those 5.2- 6.2 ish fasting readings are great as well. It is also smart to be asking the question when you saw the level rise.

The number one tool in your armory is your meter and testing often. As @nosher8355 pointed out you need to test each morning before eating and before and after different meals so you can see what impact that food is having on your levels then you have the information to change your meals accordingly You said "as I'm type 2 I only test it every couple of days" I have seen more than a few Type 2's on these forums who have been incorrectly advised (in my opinion) that frequent testing is not required. It is that testing that gives us the knowledge to make changes.

You have not really included any specifics re what you are eating so it is hard to give much advice in that regard other than keep the carbs low

You are doing lots right to get results to date. So I suggest you measure more and ask questions re your specific details as all on here will be happy to help

I may be misinterpretting things a little, but if yousay the same time, and mean the same time (e.g. 09:00), as opposed to notionally the same time (e.g. as soon as your feet touch the floor from waking), then it could potentially vary quite a bit. My regime has always been wake, get up, go to the loo, wash hands, test, then as appropriate, step on the scales. Get on with my day. :) That way, I have a very consistent approach.

You may find you have slightly different readings on the days after you rest, unless you would usually test after exercise, as exercise does impact on blood scores for most folks. As a rough rule of thumb, gentle exercise ( a slow, sustained stroll usually lowers the score, whereas exercise requiring more exertion tends to raise the score a bit, then it drops off), so even considering the impact of exercise can be a bit complex - especially if you have been on an increasing programme of exercise; maybe going from a stroll, to a brisk walk, to jog, to run.

In your shoes, I would commit to testing every day, at the same time, in the same way for a period of two weeks. It's only 14 strips, and could give you a better insight. When you record your scores, please record what exercise you do each day, so that you can look back and not be having to rely on memory.

Second that.

Then you'll be able to see if it persists. If it does, its a possibility that you may actually be Type 1.5 or LADA. You'd establish that with a GAD test. But your doctor won't probably be willing to commission that unless the data seem really clear.

The point would then be that treatment is different.

So this carried on for a week or so and I got myself into a state, It was the old days before I was told I was type 2. Anyway. Went to see my Nurse (NHS fantastic support) It took her 2 minutes to work out I wasn't drinking enough water. Basically I'd got a new coffee machine and had been taking a small flash of really good coffee to work instead of getting 2 or 3 large coffee's from costa and the water In the costa coffee was 3 x the amount I was getting with the flask and I was just not flushing enough sugars.

Lesson for me , its not just about counting carbs or checking your blood, you need to Hydrate as well.
