moved to my Home-State, so happy to be back and have my much-loved 4 Seasons again. Did not like the almost constant, icy winds off the ocean, and lack of shopping options (groceries and other). Did a lot of shopping online and finally gave up on any clothes shopping ;)
Thanks to some people on this forum that mentioned Dr. Jason Fung, I now have a much, better handle on Fasting/Intermittent Fasting which I've also heard about during my journey on Keto.

I really thought Fasting overnight was enough (usually 16 hours) including no snacking (healthy diabetic safe) after my deadline, 6pm. I'm a Type 2 Diabetic btw. I have been having some hunger after my morning breakfast which is proteins, fats and carbs and a pretty good chunk of food so I am full, but hungry within even a half hour, or that feeling of hunger. I've been eating this way for almost a year now, although I eat snack if I can't deal with being hungry. Usually, not within at least 2 hours though, but that's a poor excuse for fast.

Dr. Fung, and Dr. Berg helped me out hearing about Insulin resistance causing that, sort of hunger. And Dr. Fung says to get rid of Insulin Resistance, a person can fast, and that actually is what he recommends. So I'm starting today to try and do that after breakfast, and after lunch. A few times after breakfast, I've been able to skip lunch because I was so busy. I'm retired and a lot of my snacking is due to boredom.

But I don't feel good a lot of the time which could be a lot of reasons (T2 Diabetes, Insulin Resistance, and old age. I'm 69 now). I also need to get out and walk more often.

Has anyone dealt with similar and been helped with sticking to a good, fasting routine? Thanks, Denise

I found fasting really helped with managing hunger because it gradually reduces the amount of ghrelin you produce. If you are insulin resistant, you will have more insulin floating around your system which puts your body into fat storage mode. These factors make it hard for type 2's to lose weight. I think carb cycling/crashing keeps people eating frequently also. Fasting and keto worked for me, although I have not fasted for a couple of months now except for skipping breakfast now and again and my bg is running higher probably because of this. My willpower is hurting during the festive period.

My will-power took a dive after I wrote this. I truly believe that fasting between day-meals will get my BG down to more normal numbers, and out of the higher pre-diabetic range. I was just not ready to start today. I will start fresh in the a.m. I do believe it's the insulin resistance that needs the attention with the fasting to put IR in reverse for me. I did lose all the weight I needed to, but realize, that is a bonus for eating a better diet to control not just my BG but also, the cause which I believe is Insulin resistance.

Thanks so much for your honest post ;) Denise

I think routine fasting does not really work for me. I just fast spontaneously or just run down the contents of my fridge and then start. I can relate to eating when bored. I found it much easier to fast when I was working 12 hour shifts with a 2 hour commute. Stress and feeling tired makes fasting harder too. I like to drink different teas when I'm hungry, green tea or earl grey mostly and black coffee in the morning. Camomile before bed. I am mostly hungry around 8pm.

If you feel good, I wouldn't change anything probably. I don't feel like my system is as good as it could be, and Dr. Fungs talk gave me a lot of reason to think about why it might not be. Too focused on Diabetes, instead of what I believe the cause of diabetes. Here's the video for any interested:

I've been doing intermittent fasting for a few months now, my maximum eating window per day is noon - 8pm, but I generally don't eat before 1pm at least and have usually had my last meal of the day by about 7pm.

I've also started treating a daily walk as one of the 'medicines' I need to take every day. I do enjoy walking - which is why I've stuck to it - but putting into that framing in my mind helps get me out of the door when the weather isn't really very welcoming.

I've done a couple of longer fasts - but only to about 36 hours - and not very often, I do find they are useful to reset my system if my diet has been a bit wobbly for a day or so. I am a big fan of 'my body, my science project', and starting to understand the way my system reacts has been a huge benefit of this way of eating/living over the last few months. As well as posting on here to keep myself accountable, accountable to myself mainly.

I don't know, for me, if I would try the 24 hr fasts Dr. Fung suggests, but I hand it to anyone that can do that. I just feel my body needs that time between meals such as Breakfast, Lunch and dinner. I don't eat after 6 because I like to got to bed, lie down at night to read, at least 3 hours "after" I eat my last food. That's because I don't get any acid reflux if I do that. Walking is also like medicine for me, and I do not feel good at all if I don't "take" it ;)

I also learned from another diet doctor video (I think it was) that it can take a long time (which no one mentioned how long) to reverse, or stop insulin resistance so I haven't even been working on that for a year yet. 67 years of eating the wrong foods can't be healed over night. I should say, eating too much of certain foods, and really, eating too much of anything isn't healthy as I sure don't feel good if I eat too much meat & fats either ;)

I didn't make it between lunch and dinner yesterday. Today, I'm going to eat meat for lunch, maybe with vegies and see how I do with eating more of a dinner around 3 pm. I don't know I will make it all the way to bedtime. Also, I want to change up my breakfast. I just need to change up my variety of low-carb meals I think, and times I eat them. This food craving, boredom or both is messing me up.

Does anyone know if drinking 2 Cups of coffee "drink" made of 2/3 Chicory Root, and 1/3 regular coffee, with 1/2 tsp cacao, sprinkle of cinnamon, and Almond milk for creamer break a fast? Now that I type it out and see it, I wouldn't be surprised if it will :arghh: These cups I have at 6 a.m. when I get up, but I don't count them as breaking fast.

I just found out a minute ago, from a message my doctor wrote back to me on, that he is setting up for me to have a test for Insulin "levels" I guess it is?? The one that can tell if I am Insulin Resistant?

I mean, I am sure I am from all I read and listen to, but to what extent I would like to know, if I'm getting better or not.
