Fat Fast Starting Monday 3rd August

So had 3 bpc and a couple of fingers of cream cheese (classy I know). Fats were about 97% so I had tacos for supper. Pic below and unwrapped just for demonstration purposes otherwise it would look just like a lump of lettuce.

Nope phone playing up but here's mfp macros for the day and will post taco Tuesday when on the pc.

Morning troops

Bloods 4.8 fasting and blood ketones 1.2. Dead chuffed. In fact one could say chuffed to smithereens and all that nomsense!

Last day of the fat fast and in the place I want to be. Been pretty brutal to date due to recent carb creep and too much wine. Did you know about the hidden calories in a bottle of wine?Reckon there's at least another 800 that they don't tell you about.

@Merrylizard1314 and I are thinking about doing an exit from the ff. my aim would be to have fasting bloods 4 to 5. Morning blood ketones over 1.5 and continued weight loss at 1 to 2 lobs per week (after the adjustment) estimate to put on circa 40% of weight lost this week. Keep off the wine till end of the month. Keep fat ratio as high as possible but not worry about the cals now. It's been a joy not having to wash up but looking forward to cooking again. Work out best fuel strategy for 53 mile run walk on by August bank hols- want it to be as fat as possible but it's not very transportable friendly. Pork scratching so and bags of peanut butter got me round the marathon in April but as I'll have a backpack with me this time can have other stuff. Thinking tins of anchovies. Might try and freeze some cream cheese so how that hols. Def Mac nuts. If anyone has any suggestion it would be much appreciated.

Final report tomorrow then on the fat fast thread.

Beautiful day down here in saga central and forecast for the weekend is looking good. Unfortunately we are going to cockney land by the sea for the weekend and I've seen far to many of them in the last month or so.

Tacos Tuesday as promised by Lord Business - check out the protein and carbs on those bad boys!

Nope - file too large - must be an extra large taco then>

Today I did not make 90% again. I find it difficult, anyway.

Aloe: MerryLizard is still worried about being in the 85-89% range, rather than 90%, on her Fat Fast...

Mr Svea: Poor woman!

(Bearing in mind, that scientifically speaking, 5% is well within the acceptable range/error margin.)

It's been great watching you guys and all that lovely healthy fat-ty food! And great BG levels, and ketone levels.

I miss Nom, and Pasha. Have no idea what happened there. Feel like I'm in a new school and I don't understand the culture, always. .

But very pleased you all shared this experience. I have learnt a lot about real HFing from following this, and have really been enjoying the pepperoni with cheese grills since. Yum! Looking forward to following your continued HFing (but not quite so high %I guess? ) some more.

'Alo Aloe what's going on here then. Like the new avatar I see what you've done there. Yes I know what you mean about the new school and not understanding the culture but your right nobody has any idea what happened - how could they and anything else would be merely chinese whispers.

我们会伤害对方,我们想说的东西。

我们可以一直这么好起来,我们可以永远住这个舞蹈。但现在,谁是要与我共舞?

请留下来

Going to keep quite a high % of fat going to make sure that the ketosis is not lost but from here on in not restricting the cals is going to open up for some actual meals. @Merrylizard1314 is our man down under so on a very different time frame, oh and is actually a woman. but yep we'll either continue here or open up a new thread.

Skal.

Fat fast coming to an end. Evil corporate carb pusher maccy d's for lunch. 1 black coffee and one happy meal. Which begs the question when is a happy meal not a happy meal.

...which also begs the question why won't a photo of my Fat Fast Tacos not upload yet evil product placement by carb pushers does as they were taken with the same camera?

Obviously evil plot by carb pushers, or miasma effect of Tacos. Dear little boy you've got there, Baruney.
Yesterday was absolute logistical nightmare with pleasant surprises all day.
Unexpected but welcome overseas guests for an overnight stay, passing through on way to the snow, to meet up with family and all coming back on Sunday!
Leg now freed from durance vile.looks thinner than I remember, but a welcome sight after 5weeks.
Friday am 4.6mmol/L. Ketones2.1
BPC,, 2sardines wrapped in sorrel leaves.

Glass of red wine. Pecorino cheese.
Frittata and Greek salad, roasted vegetables( mushrooms, Garlic, jicame, capsicum and zucchini)
Blueberry crumble with double cream. Cheese board and red wine.
Well that was what I provided for my guests ( also grilled lamb chops for the 3carnivores) so I picked very carefully, without appearing to, and we were talking and laughing throughout, so I drank another glass of wine, had some roast garlic and frittata and some cheese.
2 hours later , 5.6mmol/L. So not too bad.

Again I didn't make 90% but the average is over 80% for the week, so I think I will be happy with that, especially keeping inky all the time. And very energetic, too. I have just seen that you are virtually nearing John O' Groats, Baruney , perhaps I can join you on the return journey?

Absolutely our man down under. Was so on track on the whole ff, which I really enjoyed but having the breaking strain of a soggy kit kat it all went pear shaped on our return from the beach when OH needed the lav. So we nipped to the squash club on the way back -need I say more. But it is what it is. Not happy with what has transpired. Own weak will to blame I've got to cover 53 miles in a cut off time of 22 hours. Oh!

S
  1. Sorry just re read the post. For those of you not in the know by what I mean by a visit 6the squash club you just have to search squash club or it mightbe even under racketball. Who knows where what goes where nowerdays.

Anyhow:eill5mm

53 miles in 22 hours! So you have to do about 4mph, with food and toilet breaks! That is tough. But if you are inky, think of the reserves you will have in your tank - more than plenty!
Swimming this arvo, after such a long time, heaven!
My exit strategy is to keep the fat around 80% for a few days, gradually reducing to around 75% and then see how I feel over the next week to 10days.
Don't beat yourself up about kit kats. Did you ever see that programme describing the different ways in which people are suborned from their WOE? One way was from falling into a habit of wanting. It made sense to me at the time, to use the plasticity of the brain to make new neural pathways, and different ways of feeling the togetherness over food. The reason it is so difficult to do is because the individual is not the community. Food manufacturers spend enormous amounts of money creating clever visions of community enjoyment around various products, so that when you see that product, it carries baggage, and often the happiness of the vision is what is desired as much as the taste of the high sugar, carby thing. I sometimes get a bit cross when I see this directed at children - sorry, I just felt a rant coming on! So now, I am inclined to (if overcome by wanting to try some non-food bar or packet ) pick up the item, examine the carb number, which is usually around 19-26 per serving, and replace it on the shelf saying "goodness! Do they really expect anyone to eat THAT!" And then it is easy to not want it any more. Others have different strategies, I am sure, but that one works for me.

In early September there will be my HbA1c, which could be interesting, especially as regards lipids.i would also like to know what my actual insulin resistance is, as opposed to what it might be, if in the range of normal,

We should keep this thread open, as I'd like to see where nom got to and to get a headmasterly overview of the whole thing. Living in hope.
And I've played a lot of squash, but not for a few years now.Great game.

@Baruney & @Merrylizard1314. You have both done amazingly well with your fat fast. Your perseverance & determination to succeed is admirable and inspiring. Congratulations & well done. I Stand back in amazement!!

Pleased you like the new pic Baruney. I was deeply affected by the book actually - he is quite something that dietdoc Doc Eenfeldt. And very inspiring about LCHF. (Like you guys in this thread!)

Lol - I am well familiar with the 'down under' thing (and the time frame diff), and the female thing! . And that merrylizard is an Aussie woman. I promise! But I have to say, and being a 'new Swede' and always a little on the frank and earnest side - you do know, don't you? That there is no up or down in space - the southern hemisphere is no more down in the universe than the northern is really up. It's just a 'relative to' thing so we can get our heads around our spinning and rotating around that gorgeous big shining thing in space. And the northern hemisphere perspective took precedence. Just checking you know that . (Keeping you native-born northern-hemispherers in line .)

I actually ran your Chinese (reminded me of being in downtown Auckland for a moment there) through Google translate. It appealed to the side of me that likes spy movies! . Are they words to a song? A poem? Nice, in any case. (And it sounded great!)

Thanks for feedbacking on the expulsion/school feeling stuff. Much appreciated indeed.

And more 'Yay!' for high fat! Yay for High Fat in Cyber Space!

Perfectly understood about the rant and I think the maccy d picture above probably sums it up with a minion toy and all those addictive carbs. Will have to wean him out of their in good time. They know exactly what they are doing. It's arguably the world's most recognised brand with a huge marketing budget to back it up. Try walking past one with a hungry 4 year old! And here am I with my knowledge of how bad those carbs are!

Hola yes he's quite something isn't he. Really liked his site and am in 2 minds about subscribing now that he's charging for access. Anyhow money talks and until people can make more money pushing lchf than carbs or diabetic drugs that's the way it will stay.

Interestingly in London they are advertising low carb breakfasts (really you mean a full fry without the toast) genius. And the supermarkets are getting in on the act now. So you can buy a tub of calif our 'cous cous' for £1.50 in the chilled section next to a cauliflower at 607 which would make 10 that amount. Genius.

And yes it's a song by George Michael. Two verses of careless whisper - chinese whispers and I thought those 2 verses were an apt ode to the type 2 2.

Right. Hectic day. In brighton for the weekend. Was all go swimmingly well and cals and ratios for Friday looking good. However I have yet to put the 3 glasses or red wine. 60g dry roasted peanuts and 120 cream cheese that I snaffled down last night.

Paid for it with the readings. So bloods 5.0 fasting and 0.9 blood ketones. Overall very happy with the results but disappointed with my inability to have just the 1 glass of wine.

In fairness it was probably @Merrylizard1314 fault as she was having a virtual cast off party and if I read correctly indulged a wee bit as well.

So moving on.....and bearing in mind that last Sundays readings were worse than Mondays and yesterday's reading were better than today's (lesson in there somewhere methinks).

Weight: start 15 stone 9 pounds. End 15 stone 2 pounds. 7 pound weight loss. Like I said before I have this thing going on every time I hit 15 it just bounces right off it and reckon I was there yesterday. Aim for august is to slow it down a bit but loose half a stone.

Fasting bloods. Start 7.8 end 5.0.

Blood ketones. Start 0.3 end 0.9.

So happy with the results and bearing in mind yesterday's figures were better than today's.

Will get round to seeing what effect the vino had on mfp but moving forward going to up the cals as in eat til saited and eat meals rather than portions of 250 cals 5 times a day. Want a minimum of 80% fat to end of august.

Was much harder than first fat fast I did as coming from so far out. In fact it was quite brutal really but suffered the headaches and switch over because I knew what the end result would be. I think it was Thursday that the body moved over from petrol to diesel with a combo of getting 90% fat and a 7 mile run in. On the run it was a fairly consistent jog but could feel little bursts of energy intermingled with bouts of lethargy and I am reading this as my body deciding to be in ketosis or glycosis.

Thankfully fat won the day.

@Baruney , nice job well done, three small glasses of red wine is fine.
3 kg is good going what what!
Hj

This FF was easier in some ways, in that I had prepared for it in a better way, and didn't have a huge drop in BGL at the beginning, which plays havoc with the mental state because of headaches and general wooziness. That did not happen, although for other reasons, there was a slump, connected with T2T.
Generally I felt very energised, proven by the fact of a virtual party turning into an influx of unexpected guests, and a convivial evening after all! With red wine, as Baruney has said.

So, my main objective, was to increase my ketone level a bit, to be 2-2.5.
Start ketones- 1.6. Now-2.2 . My FBGL ha been under 5 the whole time, except for , I think, the first or second day, when it shot up over 5 ( but it did that last time too, I remember)
4.3 this morning.
Weight Start 66.2kg. Now 63.4kg. Now my plan is to continue with LCHF and see what happens with the September HbA1c.
Thanks everyone for the support. It is much easier to do with support,
especially the good humoured kind, and it is still amazing to me.
Glasses of red all round, say I !!!

Edited to improve syntax
