Hi,

My blood sugars are improving but my energy is still the same as before; i am sleeping better than before; im not sure what else could be causing me to feel so tired after a few hours- its more of a sluggish-slow like when im at work 1 hour in im already exhausted i am a shelve stacker so its quick 20 minute per cage; my manager hasn't been helpful she has told me that if i feel like i can't work faster that i should leave;

Im only taking metformin SR 2x a day
And sitagliptin 100mg 1x day
And vitamin d 2000iu

Im starting to think its the medication but this is really affecting my mental health. I have a phone call with the specialist nurse next week but was wondering if anyone has experienced this from metformin or sitagliptin?

Thanks

I notice from your sig that your A1c has been a roller coaster over the years.
The 2 symptoms I displayed pre-diagnosis was constant urination & lethargy.
I could fall asleep countless times a day.
Could your lack of energy be a symptom of high blood sugar ?

Hi, I'm on sitagliptin, if you haven't read the leaflet with the meds, you should do, you can get similar side effects from any drugs.
Sitagliptin helps with initial insulin response, it helps counter the quick spike that some diabetics get from food, mainly carbs and sugar.
I haven't read your posts, but it is working in some way.
I would recommend that may be another Gliptin could be used to suit you better.

Keep safe

How do you record your blood sugar levels down?
Is it fasting, before and after meals, or just random?
The only time I felt that fatigue, tiredness was when my blood sugar levels were all day up and down, because I was eating too many carbs, it could be because your blood sugar levels have dropped suddenly to a lower level and your body is adjusting as in carb flu.
I have felt similar after a recent upsetting circumstances, then I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorder.
The thing that it could possibly be is if you have or had an infection.
Or I could be wrong.

You need to have a chat with your GP rather than a nurse.
Maybe because of your age, you could ask for a referral or get tests to get to the bottom of what is going on.

I test before and after meals and before bed;
I thought about that; i will give it another week or so and if my exhaustion is still their i will contact gp; my manager has made it really difficult telling me that if i don't pace it up that i should think about leaving. I really want to be able to do 6hr shift without getting tired and exhausted i only work 4x a week and that is why its really bad i don't want to lose my job either

I understand all that.
I used to be in a manual job, and because of my diet, I was permanently in ketosis and my energy levels were very high. I had no trouble at all with being tired or lethargic.
Since losing my job, I have had a breakdown and it has hit me very hard. I get days now that are good and I get days which are bad, and I am tired and lethargic. The stress is telling on my body, my blood glucose levels are normal but I just feel off.
So I do understand that about your work.
You are correct using your glucometer before and after meals, do you have any other intolerance such as lactose or food allergy, maybe something that spikes you more than other carbs?
I ask this because potatoes are very bad for me, they have provided the highest quickest spikes, than any other food, so you could say I'm potato intolerant. It is the starch, another name for carbs.
I wanted to try going gluten free, but I tried it on some gluten free foods but I didn't realise that during manufacturing, the gluten is replaced by potato starch!
I can't win!
This is what I had to discover, because no one before me or I couldn't find anything all over the internet that really worked until I tested and experimentation into all food.
I got there and it was worth it.

Keep safe

What are you eating? If your blood sugar is stable maybe you need to add more fat to give you energy.

I may have to get checked for any food allergy;
I thought maybe it had something to do with my vitamin d intake of 2000iu or sitagliptin but im really wanting to get back on track and get my shift done without getting exhausted

Tuna does not have much fat and not all cuts of meat have enough fat to give energy.
Try adding a bit of butter to your eggs or on your meat.

Don’t expect results on the same day. Your body need time to adjust.
I know it will take time; but as Christmas is almost here work will be even busier and i really want to get some energy back i work 6hr shift which isn't long my manager wants to see me improve but i have told her on a number of occasions i am struggling with my energy and if i could work faster i would.

Remember keeping blood sugars under control does not mean calorie restriction. The key is to minimize carbs. You still need to eat protein and enough fat to fill you and give you energy.

I will look into it and try eating more & see if that makes any difference;
