Fats

Hi. There isn't one answer to that. If you are overweight you may want to reduce your overall calorie intake hence reduce the fats in a similar proportion to the carbs. If not overweight then there isn't a rule for increasing the fats to maintain calorie intake other than reading all the labels and calculating but do keep some of the fats unsaturated such as fish etc.

Parsley - I would just make sure that you are eating some healthy fats with every meal, and let your appetite be the guide. I think counting carbs is quite enough to be getting on with: reduce your carbs, include things like olive oil, butter, avocado, cheese in your meal plans and see what happens after a couple of weeks. You don't need to change everything at once. Some members, like Sid, are sticking to a low carb low fat small portion diet, and has achieved great results with that, but others find that once the carbs are down, the other things really don't matter that much.

I have lost around 15kg in two months, and lowered my sugars from 10 to 4-5 mmol on a very low carb but unlimited otherwise diet. However, at 120g carbs, you probably are going to have to watch your fat to an extent. It's only on very low carb diets that you can eat whatever else you like. Fats and carbs in combination are what you have to watch out for.

Just to clarify that a bit I dont eat a low fat diet and never have, but I have never increased the amount of fat I eat either so to say I eat a low fat diet is actually incorrect.

I have just cut back on the carbs and eat smaller portions of food than I used to :D

Fair enough :)

Type 2 on Metformin, diagnosed Jan 2013, ultra low carber, Hba1C at diagnosis 8% (64), average BS now between 5 and 6 mmol.
