Was officialy told by the doctor 3 weeks ago I waas diabetic. I knew what he was going to say after two high readings at the surgery and was fealing realy down. After the first high reading I decided to get my own meter and strips and start testing my BG levels. they were all between 7,8 and 10.0.
I took these to my first appointment with the nurse, she told me I had wasted my time as I did not need to test. She said eat a sensible diet, get more excercise and see her again in August for a Diabetic work up. No advice as to what to eat etc, as you can imagine this did not help my low state.
After reading this site and forum I made a lot of changes in my life, eating a sensible diet, plenty of excercise, cycling about 6 miles a day and a lot of walking. Despite her advise not to test I still am, all the readings for the last week hve been between 4.6 and 6.7 with one high fasting reading of 7.7 I was realy pleased. I have lost 19lbs and my blood pressure is down to around 135/80. I now feal a lot more possitive but I dont think I would have achieved this if I had not found the forum. Hope I can keep it up and avoid tablets etc as long s possible.
Thanks to all :D

Well done, you really are doing well now :) You were right to get yourself a testing kit - that way you can work out what you can eat and what you can't or should cut down on. Your weight loss is fantastic in such a short time and the exercise has helped a lot with that too. Your levels have really improved now. Keep visiting the forum as often as you can as there's always something new to learn.

Thanks Daisy for the encouragement. Will definately keep checking the forum. One question, what should your reading be in the morning after fasting from around 10pm?

Your morning readings should be between 4 and 7 mmol/l according to NICE guidelines. I like to have mine lower than 6.5 though. Make sure you test immediately you get up. If you have a shower first, for example, that will make your levels go up. :)

Welcome to the forum, good to hear things are going well for you :D

Re: Fealing more positive thanks to forum...

That's really great progress. Personally, I wouldn't worry about the fasting levels not being lower yet, some of this does take a little time and those numbers are good.

My fasting levels are rubbish ,in the high 7s to high 8s and it worried me I tried all the ways known to man (and woman too) but it wont go down so I stopped testing in the morning .The after meal readings are fine and also fasting levels of 5-6 hours during the day are ok as well.My HbA1c has come down to 6.8 from 15.8 less than 2 years ago I dont know whether I am being an ostrich but I reckon that if Ihave done all possible there is no point getting stressed .

My morning fasting levels are the worst of the day, I suffer with the dawn phenomenon and can get my evening fasting down into the fives, but the morning ones are rarely below 6.5 - I don't think that there is much I can do about. I it just make sure that it doesn't keep rising during the morning, by watching what I eat. Which is why morning carbs are a complete no no for me, but a protein breakfast will stop my levels rising all morning.

Great readings kjt57! :)
