So, I am sooooooo petrified of spiders that last night I slept on my sofa because husband was at work and wouldnt be home until 8.30am.

I demanded he kill it as if he hoovered it up, it could crawl back out the hoover. If he put it outside, it could come back in again.

Anyone else have extreme (or daft) fears or phobias??

My wife has the same phobia as you @MH2010, like your husband I always try and catch them and release them back outside.

I am pertified but wouldnt kill one unless its super huge like last nights.

Plus I had to sleep on an uncomfy sofa so it sort of deserved to die lol

Yep, like you I'm terrified of spiders. Before I was on my own Hubby used to pick them up & put them outside but I just shudder & shake. I keep a small glass at hand and can just about manage to drop it on top of a crawley but then I have to wait for somebody to come visit so they can shift it's remains. I do find a conker in the corners of every room helps, spiders hate the smell of them

I caught one in the bathroom and it was the size of my hand, released it in the back garden and it scurried-off across the lawn and from nowhere a blackbird swooped down and picked it up................. well I did try my best

Hahahahaha :D:D:D

At that size, I would have run a mile and moved house!!

I'm petrified of spiders and recently my room seems to have become a magnet for big spiders (they keep coming out from under my bed) I get someone to check all around the room for spiders before I'll set foot in it. The other day I put my dressing gown on and a spider came crawling over my shoulder it was about palm size. I practically had a melt down because of it.

Oh my god!!! I am shivering just thinking about that happening, YUCK!!!

I actually like spiders. They eat the nasty dirty insects like flies and bluebottles. I would never kill one.
Their intricate webs are beautiful. Also if you look closely, the pattern on the back of garden spiders is beautiful too.
The big ones that come inside to keep warm in the autumn favour the bathroom. I relocate to the garden shed. They can keep warm in there.

Spiders are at their largest at this time of year, having had all summer to grow and fatten up. I don't mind them, but Mrs hay-char hates them and I'm regularly called in to remove them from her presence.

A couple of autumns ago, I came back from a weekend away, sailing, to find a couple of them trapped in upturned glasses and awaiting my return for their disposal.

It's heights that do it for me. I'm fine in planes and such, but put me on a cliff path or the observation platform of a tall building and I'm in bits

Ok, this won't be popular, I'm sure, but cats freak me out. I cannot be alone in a room with them.
I don't dislike them, but I am allergic to them. Also the way they look at you with distain, and it is as if they can read your thoughts. Oh and the way they seem to know they freak me out, and do that weird walking around your legs trying to trip you up. The spraying indoors and the walking on worktops after they have been digging in poo in litter trays and gardens doesn't endear them to me either.

Mosquitoes. I was happy to go live in Canada because I thought, that unlike France, there wouldn't be any mozzies. How wrong I was.

In summer, in the Muskoka lakes, there are clouds of them around the water's edge.

Even worse, are black flies.

In Toronto, you can tell the people who go away to the cottage for the weekend, as they all look like they have measles on Monday morning. :(

I don't fear spiders and pick em up and put outside

My one fear in the animal world is Wasps been stung by the little buffers hurts and I get a real bad reaction to them so I don't like Wasps at all

Spiders! They totally freak me out! The huge thick-legged ones that have been coming in recently are the worst. I genuinely feel faint looking at them. I usually put a glass over them until they can be put outside.

One evening I thought a mouse had run out from under my sofa, but it was actually a gigantic spider! I think the speed of them is partly what makes them scary.

I read once about the origin of arachnophobia, which must be one of the most common phobias surely? It was something about a hangover from when we lived in caves.

And for all the people who say "It won't hurt you!" not true! One bit my foot once and left a nasty lump (and no, I didn't turn into Spiderwoman in case you're wondering - that would have been terrifying!)

I dont mind the good old spidey or 2. What I am petrified of tho, and feel free to laugh at the second, is birds and aspic jelly. Ive always had a phobia of birds, dont like the eyes or the beak. And aspic jelly (the stuff around canned ham or in pork pies) my brother used to chase my around the house threatning to put it in my hair and on my face, horrid little tyke

I aint too keen on birds, flying rats as my husband calls them (shame cause I dont mind rats lol)
