Ive had T1 since April 24th and im still not adjusted!! I think im at the end of my honeymoon period of my pancreas working as my sugars have spike a lot. Im so drained and cant cope right now!

Hi @cezli84

Sorry that your feeling fed-up, it can take people a long time to adjust to life with type 1 diabetes, so don't despair as it will all come together eventually.

If the spikes are postprandial spikes have a read of the following, it discusses bolus timing which is important in type 1 management:

http://www.diabetesselfmanagement.c...blood-glucose-management/strike-the-spike-ii/

The author of the article in the link is the same guy who brought out the book Think Like a Pancreas, the book comes highly recommended by the forum members here and I recommend you purchase a copy, it covers most aspects of type 1 diabetes management including getting the basal dose right which is important above all else.

Hiya Cez sorry to hear this is how your feeling, there is a lot to take in at diagnosis so it can be very over whelming, I felt like is to at around 6-8 months after diagnosis, hit my rock bottom about then, I had a chat with my DSN which helped clear my head. I would recommend you do the same, they are your support team so should be able to look at your day to day care and see if they can do anything to help.

Take each day as it comes and try a walk in a green space to keep your head clear, it will get a lot better I promise X

Hello Cezlie,
Have you spoken to your DSN? Having a chat with someone can help no end and help a little way to putting things in a better light for you. Try taking one day at a time and if it's a bad day then tomorrows another day to start again. No one ever gets perfect numbers day in day out so don't feel down when it doesn't go to plan. Are you confident in adjusting your own insulin as it sounds as if a few tweaks are needed, again if not ring your DSN that's what s/he is there for.

Thank u all. I just feel so frustrated and feel almost as ill as when i was first diagnosed. I joined this group back then for support and that really helped but just needed it right now as my mood is low again. My numbers have been in double figures over the last few weeks and am forever correcting. I knew the day would come where my pancreas would give up but i am still finding it so hard to accept this for life!! I will be seeing my DSN nxt week so will talk to her. I will follow that link too thank u x

It does sound as if your background insulin needs to go up a bit, double check with your DSN with a call tomorrow so she can advise by how much to increase, having numbers more in range will make you feel better as well, hopefully then you can sit and have a good chat with your DSN.

Hope you start to feel better in yourself soon.

Thank u. I will call them again tmz. I have the feelings of thirst and peeing like when i was diagnosed an am feeling really anxious bout it. Ive just checked it now an even after correcting at 7, its still at 11.9 so i dont no what to do. Its been great the last few months with staying in single figures but the last few weeks its gone into double. 25 was the most an that was fasting

It does sound as if you need some more background insulin, do tell the DSN when you ring how high your fasting numbers are and how it's making you feel.

I defo will. Im still not really 100% clued up on the whole T1 as it is so i really need to do some reading. I think its been stubbornness to be honest coz i dont want to admit to myself

Hiya Cez,

High readings can mean a few things, so try changing your insulin cartridge first as they can go off/get a bad one from time to time, do you have any possible illness or dental infection ? Also being a lady - check to see when you are due on, I know from experience that I become insulin resistant around the time of the month and need a third more basal for about a week.

Please try not to worry this is temporary, it's a learning curve and you will/should find out why when you know more, just remember to drink more fluids and speak to your DSN as soon as possible.

You are doing an amazing job and being mindful of these things means you will get alot better at this, do read up on Dr Bernstein, it's great reading, take care hun x

Jibbers your bonkers !! Hope you're feeling better ? I ramble nonsense too when hypo-ing, sometimes I get great clarity with my thinking other times i'm a shaking wreck lol !!!

Hi @cezli84
Sorry to hear you're feeling rough...it will get better I promise...sometimes it just takes a while to find the right levels especially since it sounds like you're now out of your honeymoon period...but it sounds to me like you need to go back to scratch.

I apologize in advance for all the questions but I think it's the best way to nail the cause of your spikes. Are you on basal/bolus regime? Are you carb counting? What is your current carb/insulin ratio? Have you done the DAFNE course? If not...this is something that you should bring up with your DN when you call today. Can you give us an idea of what kind of foods you're eating.

It may be best to make an appointment with your DN, they will probably ask you to keep a food diary of everything that you eat, insulin doses and BG readings before and after meals for a couple of weeks leading up to your appointment so they can identify the cause of your spikes. I know it sounds like a total pain but it really is the best way to establish some control and get you back on track.

Keep you chin up...drink plenty of water and hope you feel better soon :)

Well as you were 14 before breakfast then a 2.7 rise after isn't to bad at all. Obviously you don't want the 14 in the first place so that needs to be addressed hence the call to your DSN. It's always best not to eat if you are above 8.

Your above statement is the first step in acceptance ((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))) Bernstein's book is fine as long as you are an extreme low carber if not look elsewhere.
