Hi everyone,

My name is Peter and I have had type 2 diabetes since 2015.
It has become a living nightmare. My sugar levels for last 2 years have been around 33.

I just can't seem to get it down. I am very Inactive and have so many other medical issues. The only thing I do not have presently us the BIG C.

my knee surgeon has now ignored me completely and my knee replacement looks like it's never going to happen. I have been waiting 11 years but now because of all my ills the doctors are scared off. In my last blood test it came back with myloma markers so I may well have a full house. If it turns out I have the final card I have told my doctor to forget any treatment.

I am stunned I have not had a stroke or heart attack. I take so many pills every day. The ones I believe have (touch wood) not caused a HA or stroke is my daily 15ml of the finest Virgin Olive oil and 2 magnesium supplements.

I take Metformin and fast acting insulin which does nothing.

I really am at the end of my tether. My HBA1C last week was 16 .

I have tried all these diets and reduced to 22 very quickly but one little thing and up it flies again. I am so angry with my knee surgeon who is gutless and to leave me like this after all these years demonstrates that he is worried about himself more than about me. I wrote to him and told him to 'grow a pair' .

I won't burden yiu with my problems and thank yiu for listening.

Hi Allan Peter,

Welcome to the forum. You're not burdening anyone; if you need to unload, this is a pretty decent place to do it, really.

Couple of questions: You say you already tried every possible diet, do you care to get into the specifics of those? Some work better than others, and since we're all different, with different levels of insulin resistance/sensitivity, one might have to go further down, carb-wise, than the next person. From the sound of it you're very, very resistant, -with the insulin not doing a jot, I think it's a fairly safe guess to make on my part- so you'd likely have to get on a very low carb diet to get your insulin sensitivity sorted, if possible... I don't know what you've already tried though, so just guessing.

As for the surgery, I don't think the surgeon has much of a choice. There's protocols for a reason, and he might lose his license if he does elective surgery (rather than the life saving kind) on someone with blood sugars that are this high. Quite simply because we tend to not heal when we're running high, wounds stay open, infections thrive with high blood sugars to feed on... I think there might be a chance you'd lose the leg entirely, if he does suddenly decide to "grow a pair". I don't know if that's a chance you're willing to take, as I don't know how much pain you're currently in (I am guessing a lot), but I doubt any surgeon will take the risk, as things stand... Sorry.

If you could give a little more detail about the kinds of diets you've followed? Personally I do low carb, float in and out of keto, and have done carnivore for a while (until it turned out I was one of the lucky ones who gets a gravel pit worth of kidney stones on that... Worked like a charm on my blood sugars though, and it was a nice diet indeed...!). So there's different strokes for different folks, and sometimes there are wobbles, but the thing is to get back on the wagon a.s.a.p., not give up on it entirely because of one bad day, week, month... Year, even.

Anyway, I hope you find this place useful. And if we have nothing to offer that'll actually help, we can sit here and listen.
Good luck,
Jo
