So this morning I had to fast for a blood test. My BG was 18.
Had the blood test. Took my insulin.
had a smaller than usual breakfast. Took 12u novorapid (breakfast usually do 8-10).
It's 4hrs later and my BG is still 15.. I expected a bigger drop (to within 6 & 10) even with a normal breakfast.

Not only am I confused why nothing much happened.. I feel like I'm very much hypo (not sick, no more stressed than usual). Any ideas?

Breakfast was a coffee (full milk, approx 350ml), and a few plain biscuits. Nothing fatty or weird or secretly sugary/hi-carb

Full Milk is very fat maby That is the problem?

The thing is, I usually have that amount of milk in the morning...

Also was busy at work so lunch was a bit later than usual.. my pre-lunch test showed I'd gone up again... think my pancreas is just giving up in fits and starts. Things had settled for a couple weeks, but I guess it's back on the rollercoaster!

Well, hitting it with 12 again at lunch has at least worked (ate light again, down to 9). Maybe I got something weird with the injection site this morning? Hmm. Seems unlikely.

It could be your delayed breakfast. I find delaying breakfast and my bolus can make my BS go up. It's also possibly a bit of stress from the blood test.

If your highs persist, I'd change your insulin to fresh cartridges/pens just in case there's an issue with that.

You're quite right about the whole milk. It's pretty minimal fat, and, like you, I have it every morning.

Many of the symptoms I experience when low also occur when I'm high - no idea why but you're not alone! For me it includes feeling hot, sweating, feeling weak/tired, irritability, and anxiety.

Since your blood sugar has been very high for some time, I would suggest checking your ketones just to make sure everything's ok.

Hi @gavin86 . How long have you been diagnosed? Are you carb counting?
High blood sugars can quite often require more insulin to drop them back in range.
Stress doesn't help either, hopefully this is a minor blip and everything will be back to normal asap.

I know I'm type 2 but I too agree delaying breakfast or no breakfast can mess up good bgs. I'm on novarapid too.

Thanks guys. I've been diagnosed about a month now. I guess I'm starting to develop a feeling for hyperglycemia now that I'm getting things under control. Felt completely "normal" when I had a BGL 43 and was first diagnosed.

Ketones haven't been an issue for me, highest reading I've ever had is 0.2 - so far.

The pen itself seems fine, been working as expected since. May well have been the delayed schedule. Or a combination of things...
Still figuring it all out!
