Why do I feel ill and tired after a high carb meal?

If I have a high carb meal usually which involves potatoes it makes me feel really ill and tired and I have to go lay down. I can also feel my blood rushing through my veins which feels very odd.

I used to get potato sickness, lol. Would get headache, sweats, nausea, sleepy, sluggish, etc. I did have to eat quite a lot of potato to feel that **** though - mainly happened when I was a student and living off potato's!

I get that feeling too after a high carb meal and blood sugars usually reflect how I feel (nausea usually means they are high). Going for a walk even just about the house and drinking water seems to help make that horrible nauseous feeling go away :)

I concur with Gary. High carbs = high blood glucose and they along with rice, pasta, white bread, amongst other things take a long time to break down and digest, hence high blood sugars and feeling like **** and knackered. Try alternatives to high carbs and vary your meals a bit to reduce the risk of this happening so often.
