Hi everyone I recently started low carb eating and just got blood sugars down to fairly good range average about 6.5 I have just started to turn my weight around as I had gained 12 kg when I Increased my inslulin. My blood sugars were high. Less than two months ago my hba1c was 12. I have now started to reduce the insulin from 38 units novo mix morning and night. I now take 20 Feel a bit strange and having nightmares . Maybe I reduced the insulin too quick but I had to because my blood sugars would have gone too low. Did anyone experience this early on

I haven't reduced mine yet-only gradually titrated up. What are your blood sugars running now and has your diet changed with the insulin change?

When I went on more insulin my sugar levels dropped significantly but my weight increased quickly without any real change in eating . After reading others on this site I then tried to lower my carbs so I could reduce the amount of insulin I have to take as I am already very overweight. As I reduced the carbs my sugars came down until they were in the target range. I then reduced the insulin and checked often to make sure I didn't go too low or too high. I have found that If I stay moderate carbs my sugar levels are good I messed up today and had some licorice and a piece of cake this caused my levels to spike and then fall quickly I am on novomix 30/70. I think I will discuss basal and bolts when I next see the dr.

Did you test your blood sugar when you had the nightmare? I find mad dreams are often a sign of low sugar. Perhaps this might explain your strange feeling aswell?

Yes my sugar was on the low side each time In the 4s. Then by the morning it has gone back up to 6.

Ok - just watch for lows like that as it may be your insulin needs a liitle more adjustment to avoid going too low now you've changed your diet.
