Feeling as if my bloods are very high but they aren’t?

Recently I have been feeling that my blood sugar are very high but when I am testing they are within my range, what could cause this? And how can I stop feeling like this?

I think @Jaylee is around at the moment. I wonder if her might have any ideas.

In the meantime, my post will boost your thread up the Recent Posts list.

Hi @Bethjane1234 ,

Welcome to the forum.

How long have you been diagnosed.?

Silly question. What is "within" your range..? How recent has this high feeling occurred?
But I'm heading somewhere with this.... Feeling high is relative to how you normally feel.
Are you suffering swinging BS levels outside the norm? Or a lot of lows?
Last question (honest.) :) what insulin regime are you on...?

I’ve been type 1 since I was 4 but I’ve been in DKA twice in the past two years, my range at the minute is between 5-11, it’s been happening for the past couple of weeks, ive had a lot of lows when waking up but the rest of the day I am fine after I have treated the low, I’m on 1 to 10 at the minute but only recently

Hi again,

Oddly enough.. My experience of treating a morning or nighttime low can leave me feeling a little high & through the morning. I don't normally do breakfast?
Hangovers from alcahol the night before (on the occaisions I "party".) feel similar. Though the BS is great. Lol

What do you treat your hypos with? How low have you been on waking??

I normally treat them with a fizzy drink then a biscuit, or I go have some cereal and give insulin for the rest that I didn’t need to correct with. It makes me feel awful, they make my moods worse too. I’ve been waking up between 1.9-2.5

Hi @Bethjane1234,

Do you use a libre? I'm just thinking it might be that you are over-treating your hypos but not seeing the spike until you test again and it's back in range.

Are you able to identify any reasoning for the lows? It's difficult to prioritise but I know how draining those morning hypos can be. Maybe try to reduce them by a small snack before bed or less insulin?

If you continue to suffer the hypos try a different treatment. Do you restrict yourself to a small amount of fizzy drink?

Personally, biscuits and cereal cause me to spike so maybe try glucojuice.. it's exactly the right amount to treat a hypo or 1-3 glucose tablets depending on how low you are. Retest in 10-15 mins and see if that buts you back in range.

Best of luck

I suffered with this sort of thing over the weekend, felt like I was high all day but my libre scans and tests showed me staying pretty steady at around 11, not the ideal I was aiming for but getting that well. Until I discovered the libre I didn't have that good control so I guessed it was because my body was reacting to my attempt at better control.

I’m on the insight pump so I’m using the accu-chek insight test kit, I the glucojuice doesn’t do it for me (silly i know) im just unsure at the minute as i necer used to take care of my self, but since my last DKA im a lot better in myself as i have a nurse who actually listens to me and helps me its just this issue and my HbA1c to sort out

Hi @Bethjane1234 I would be more inclined to sort those morning lows out, have you tried any basal testing to see what's happening with your background ? Getting your background dose is fundamental to good control: https://mysugr.com/basal-rate-testing/ Feeling high could be a counter effect of the lows you are experiencing so by getting your basal dose right it could help you feel better, it's also good practice on the pump to do a basal check from time to time.

No I haven’t tried that so I will give that a go and see what’s going on. Thank you for all the advise :)

I don't feel any different when my blood sugar is high. I might pee a bit more but that's it.

Maybe anxiety? Recently I've started getting some anxiety attacks which make me feel symptoms (usually of lows) when my blood sugar is within the normal range.

I sometimes find allergies (hayfever) or even a cold gives me symptoms I'd more usually associate with high sugars.
