In january when i woke up one day, I could hardly stand up, I was feeling dizzy. after 2 hours I decide to go to the hospital. After 4 hours waiting I saw a doctor, I told him I woke up this morning and feeling very dizzy, I told him if i lay on my back and close my eyes, I can feel my head spinning. i am diabetic and for the last two days I had 2 big jug of mix fresh fruits, strawberries, blackcurrent, rasperries and grapes in two days, to get it precise it was the VITA-MIX LARGE JUG MAX 8 CUPS, (2 days of 8 cups of mix fresh fruits) just a bit of ice it was very thick. )
anyway he said it sounds like someting to do with my hearing. and gave me a priscription, then I told him but I am diabetic, he decide to check my blood and it was 4.1. he said my sugar was ok and he feels it is to do with my hearing. I left the hospital still feeling dizzy, a week pass still the same, I decide to visit my doctor who told me I had eaten too much fruit and I could have died with all that fruit, all he said was go home and stay in bed, because it will take a while for me to feel better. And I can tell you - it took me just over 3 weeks to feel better. The dizzyness was still their, but not as bad as before. Now I am ok, I just thought a diet of only fruit will do. Now I find out I should only have any amount of fruits that i can hold in the palm of
one hand. A piece of apple,a piece of orange, and so on. I would like to find out, has this happen to anyone please. Or may be people not as greedy as me. Or maybe the hospital doctor could be right its all in my head. Please help

I thinks you may be suffering from the following:
Labyrinthitis is an inner ear infection. It causes a delicate structure deep inside your ear, called the labyrinth, to become inflamed, affecting your hearing and balance.

Symptoms of labyrinthitis include:

•dizziness
•vertigo – the feeling that the world is moving or spinning around you
•loss of balance
•hearing loss
The symptoms are usually mild and get better after a few weeks. However, some cases are more severe and last much longer. This can have a major impact on a person’s quality of life and their ability to do everyday tasks.

The fruit would have given you high blood sugar levels and you should reduce the amount you eat but I doubt it caused the other problems.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply. But I do believe that you are right. The reason why I did not believe the doctor at the
hospital because he did not examine my ears or throat,I told him how I was feeling and he told me exactly what you said.
The only thing is I was feeling really bad that I could hardly stand without aid at the hospital. I did not take the medication the doctor gave me at the hospital because I did not feel I could trust him. Anyway I am much better now, the dizzness has not return, keep my fingers cross.
Again many thanks for your support. take care and have a nice day.

hi, i suffered with labyrinthitis several times, one episode lasted for a few months, its awful if i yawned it took 10 minutes for the room to stop spinning i couldnt bend down, i spent the whole walking around with what what looked like a stiff neck i was afraid to turn my head.... i went to the hospital a&e one night feeling like i was going to die, i didnt die obviously and it went away, there are granules in you ear that get displaced, i found if i slept on only one side it cured it, you may have to try both sides one at a time but once you work out which side it is then (for me) a couple of days later this definately helped, you can read about it on google thats where i got the suggestion with the sleeping, good luck!

Hi duchess and welcome to the forum. Glad to hear you are feeling better now and the dizziness has not returned.

Fruit can be a bit tricky for diabetics especially in large amounts or when processed into drinks/smoothies as it is high in sugar and you can get quite a few pieces of fruit in a blitzed/liquidised fruit drink, small portions that do not raise your blood glucose too much are fine and as they contain many vitamins and minerals are good for you too but do watch the portions. :D

Go with the advice to only eat what will fit in one cupped hand and you wont go far wrong but its always best to test your blood glucose before and after eating different fruits to see what effect they have on your bg as some are better than others and we are all affected to different degrees. Testing is the only way to find what your personal limits are...

Hi Duchess!

Have you experienced any tinnitus at all recently? The reason I ask is that my father got struck down with sudden acute dizzy symptoms about 20 years ago and he was diagnosed with Menieres Disease at the time and suffered with some tinnitus with it too,his settled down luckily and seems to come and go with the odd flare up every now and then.

Best wishes

Paul

Hi Duchess,

Like some of the others I had Labyrinthitis a few years ago and suffered acute dizziness and nausea akin to feeling seasick every time I moved, it lasted seven weeks. When forced to go to the local shops I almost got mowed down as I found it difficult to judge speed and distance because of the dizziness so take care if you venture out on your own.

I also held my head and neck very stiffly and on my second visit to the GP with Labyrinthitis he sent me immediately to hospital because he suspected I had Menningitis because of the way I was holding my head and neck, total false alarm and a few hours waisted in the hospital, but at least he covered all the bases.

The good thing is, Labyrinthitis does eventually go and is not linked to your diabetes, so take the advice, watch what you eat, the portion size and test to see what peaks your BG.

Stay well,

Alan
