Ive just got back home after visiting my father in law for a couple of days.we had a lovely time but best of all nobody pushed me to eat..I just ate what I would normally eat at home.I'm very proud to say I have NOT made myself sick for nearly 2 weeks and I'm so happy.I'm at the hospital tomorrow to see the diabetes doctor so hopefully he can help me to eat more because I'm still only eating 2 or 3 things each day which is not nearly enough.I have tried but it makes me feel sick.roll on tomorrow and I'll let you know how I go on. X

Well done Jogreen21, you survived a family get together with your diet intact.!
Are you only eating 2/3 things because you are on Metformin and it is affecting your appetite, or because you haven't worked out what is safe to eat yet?
Do you have a blood meter? You can use that to try different foods and find which ones make your blood glucose go high.

well done @Jogreen21, I am very please that your strategy is working for you, onwards and upwards. You have proved to yourself yet again IT CAN BE DONE. Just remember the only person you have to impress is you

To be honest, @Jogreen21 , I think looking at the bigger picture, whilst you may only be eating a limited number of foods each day, it's a million miles from where you started.

Firstly, if I recall, you were only eating one thing most days, and secondly, you were making yourself sick every single day. Eating every day, and not purging it are two massive steps. Of course, your ideal would be far more varied, but it's probably best that happens in a structured way, rather than trying everything at once and becoming overwhelmed.

Focus on your wins, and work on your future. It took quite some time to arrive at your extremely limited diet, so don't expect to be able to easily turn it around in two shakes of a lambs tail.

Before you go to the hospital, take a few minutes too think about your progress. It's been excellent to watch.

Thankyou
Your words mean so much to me.its been one hell of a struggle to get this far.ive surprised myself.ive tried to eat more but whem I get it in my mouth I.cant swallow it.i.feel sick at the very thought of eating anything else except my 3 things that I'm eating at the moment..I'm quite ok at the moment and not taking steroids anymore but my blood sugar results are still over 10.

Jo, as you're beginning to see for yourself, our bodies like to work to routines of one sort or another, and our innards are very clever at maintaining our "business as usual" state, on a day-to-day basis. By that I mean if your numbers have been running high, your body is likely to have plenty of stores of sugars in your liver, which it can release, as required to keep you (and your bloods) running in their usual range.

It can take a while for those reserves to be reduced and for your body to allow your blood scores to come down a bit. Not everyone sees an immediate improvement when they make a change to their eating (foods or routines). I know when I was working to get my numbers down, I would run at a certain range, then apparently suddenly, I'd notch down a bit and establish a new, lower range, where I would again run for a little while. That could be well what's happening to you. Your body has got so used to surviving on so little for so long, it is likely extremely efficient in keeping you steady!

Give it time. If I recall correctly (and forgive me if I don't), when you first started testing your numbers were higher than they are now, by quite a bit? Stick with it. Concentrate on small steps. Striving for huge steps, and quickly could be overwhelming for you mentally or physically. Far better, I would have thought, to capitalise on the steady advances you are making.

I hope your appointment goes well today. Just listen to what they have to say, but make sure you have your say too. It's your appointment, not a process they're going through.

Fingers crossed for you.
