Hi,

I've just finished a bad food day today. I've eaten cake, crisps and chocolate at my son's birthday party. Feeling guilty!

Any words of reassurance or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks x

As a type 1 all you do is cover the carbs with the insulin required there's no need what so ever to feel guilty about a bad! diet day. Looking at it in a different light did you feel guilty about the food you provided for your son as it was his birthday? I sincerely hope not :)

Boyfriend and I just had a pizza to ourselves. 200g carbs each. Couldn't eat it all so I had some ice cream to prevent a low. Everyone diabetic or not does it once in a while and why should it matter. Us especially should give ourselves a break :)

The odd hinge is only human nature. We will never escape them totally. Just accept that today, for whatever reason, that's what you are. Then get back to your usual pattern at your next meal. No one is perfect, and sometimes rubbish food is nice! X

Depends on how many birthdays your son has a year (or you should have arranged it so that he was born on 29 February).
Seriously though, you seem to exercise a great deal of restraint at other times to warrant lashing out once in a while.
If you are going to be a saint - you occasionally HAVE to sin to really enjoy being a saint.

Advice = Go to the gym/ run/ swim to burn those nasty calories off.
Reassurance = Remember moderation is good.

It is ok to treat yourself, especially on your son's birthday! I still think that my kids birthdays should be for me, not them!

Enjoy, as long as it's not your daily carb intake, because then you'll have a blood sugar yo yo headache on your hands. A binge every now and then would be ok if you know you'll get a spike or two.
