I would appreciate opinions please.

Yesterday I had an extremely "off" day and consumed a ridiculous amount of carbs. Two rolls with sausage at lunchtime, a large packet of crisps and then to top it all off, a small doner kebab for dinner. I know.

This really is unlike me to totally go off the rails like that especially as I have cut out bread recently (not a problem) and am not a lover of greasy fried food. I also usually HAVE to eat veggies or salad with a meal otherwise I feel a bit queasy.

Anyway, inevitable, I felt as sick as a dog. Head thumping, heart pounding, shaky..just really rough. Someone very kindly gave me a meter and some test strips recently which I have been using wisely a couple of times per week. Because I felt like so unwell last night I assumed my BG was up in the rafters and thought I had better check, I was assuming well into double figures if not, teens.

It was 7.7 two hours after dinner. I could hardly believe it. I hadn't been able to test my BG's for a while until I received the meter recently and BG's have been between 5's and 8's when I have tested..any idea what could be going on? I have heard about those who have sudden dramatic drops in their BG's from maybe high teens to 7's and 8's having hypo type symptoms but my levels were never really running that high..any ideas?

I have only got a few of the strips left so are kind of making them last.

Ta muchly. :)

EDIT-Forgot the question I wanted to ask! Is it possible to have symptoms of carb/sugar overload while not having high BG figures? As above, shaking, sweating, thumping heart, very thirsty, headache..etc

if you've been cutting out fried food, might it be the sudden fat overload rather than carb overload? the foods you describe are quite high in fat as well as carbohydrates, and lots of people do find that they have some unpleasant side effects from high fat foods.
I would also guess that the high fat content of the food helped you digest the carbs slowly, which is prob why your bgs were pretty good despite the amount of carbs in the food.

Hi Snodger, thanks for your reply.

You know I never even gave the fat overload a thought? A bit daft really because although I am a crisp fanatic, I don't like fried food such as bacon, eggs, chips, etc. even though the sausage was grilled I know that it has got a ton of fat in it and as for the kebab, well...ahem
I just assumed because of the Diabetes it must automatically have been the carbs..guess it was probably a bit of both.
I didn't realise about fat slowing down the digestion of carbs either so all in all, you have taught me a lot today!

Much appreciated. :)

I'd agree with Snodger - the kebab is my chief suspect!

How's your . . . er . . . elimination today? If you have the runs, even a bit, it's probably something you ate.

Sorry for such an indelicate question
