Hi Everyone, I hope you can give me a little help!! I was quite Ill over Christmas, flu, ear infection, infection in my toe after bursting blister (I know I know) that resulted in me getting a diabetic ulcer and being hospitalized for 3 days with diabetic ketoacidosis. If my daughter hadn't rang to see how I was and driving from northwich to stoke I really believe I would not be here today (I love her so much). I was taken into hospital by ambulance.
I am still off work now because of the ulcer, well 2 now, the infection spread to another toe. I've had to go back to hospital twice in the meantime because the podiatrist wasn't happy with how my toes were progressing. I've had 2 lots of intravenous antibiotics and 2 lots of oral antibiotics.
I've now been put on insulin 3 times a day before meals and 1 before bed. I'm also on metformin and gliclacide which I have been for a while.
Anyway, I've been feeling I'll recently, nauseous, diarrhoea, nasty taste in mouth. Sleepless nights, I take medicine that enables me to fall asleep without thoughts going through my head but this now does not help!! My head feels strange too like it's underwater.
Are these symptoms of the insulin ? Should I be on another kind or not be on it at all?
Sorry to have rambled on a bit but wanted you to get a good picture of what's been going on.

No those are not the symptoms of insulin.
Given you're on insulin you should also have a blood testing kit, what are your blood sugar levels at. Do you have some way of testing your ketones?

My BG isn't very good I'm afraid. They range from the highest 12.9 to the lowest 5.7, because I'm not used to being that low I have a hypo. I then eat too many carbs cus I panic and my by goes up.

NHS 111 service is there for just the sort of situation you are in, @Oscardog .
Give them a ring tonight. They will advise best course of action.

I had those symptoms taking Metformin and Atorvastatin. As I started and stopped the medication on the same day I can't say which caused the problems - I had aches and pains, itching and memory problems too - but after two years they have gone except I still can't drink tea due to how my sense of taste was altered - bit of a blow after working for Allied Lyons as a taster, but at least it isn't something I need to do - I still have some jars of tea which I smell, just to remember the odour of it.

Hope you made that call. Let us know how you are going when you get back, all the best.
