So ive been cutting the carbs for awhile now but by afternoon time I am feeling lightheaded and tired a lot then after I have my tea I feel abit better again is this normal and will it get better?

Hello Kayleight88, it sounds as though you have go a bit far with the carb cutting, not that it is bad thing but adjustments need to be made. Maybe you need to have a snack during the afternoon, and as protein is slower to be broken down by the body the a small amount maybe advantage to you, with a cup of tea to drink with it. when I am feeling shakey. edgy and a bit empty I have some youghurt to give me a top up, as the milk and the fruit together make a good combination.
May be you could do bs testing after taking a snack for the afternoon lows and when you have found a good level, you can work it into your daily plan. May I ask what time/ have for your breakfast? and your midday/lunch meal, are you having a midday/lunch meal? ttfn

Hi @scouser56 I usually have breakfast about 8.30 porridge with sweetner or crumpets with low fat spread. Lunch about 1ish is usually eggs with bacon medallions and low fat sausages, tea is at 6 chicken breast or fish with veg. Snacks are low calorie salty popcorn and fat free greek yougrt. I am on a diet as I am overweight and want to loose weight.... drinks are usually diet drinks and flavoured water.

Kayleigh, that's not really low carb, you are going low fat. Fat is not the demon, low sugar and low fat is. Low fat stuff has sugar in - take the fat out (flavour) and replace it with sugar. Google diet doctor. I would be zonked out with that stuff. My fat secret or fitness pal is good for putting in what you have eaten and it counts the carbs and cals. To cut back on carbs you should be aiming for about 100 grams per day, a lot of us go lower.

Hello Kayleigh88 and dawnmc, Yes I agree with dawn, you are low fatting, not carb-bing, so as I have discovered by reading lots of other posts, diabetics need to up the protein and fat levels to keep the body in balance with the bs levels and then you can get the body to loose weight, this sounds daft, but it's all to do with the conversion of carbs to glucose within the body. I have been having a toasted bagel, with full fat philly cheese on, so my breakfast is bagel 44g and if I had the amount of 30g of philly is 1.2g so 45.2g for breakfast, I thought by using light philly was good, but again reading the posts I found it was not right, and original full fat is better, fills me up better,
From a lot of posts the lower carbs the better the results for bs balance and then loosing weight.
I love Longley Farm yoghurts, which are full fat, but they are live culture and taste great with good flavours to enjoy, ttfn

If you go lower carb you must raise your fat.. Otherwise your body wil be thinking it's in starvation mode and
1) you will not lose so muchweight
2) you will be tired as you are starving your brain from nutrients it needs

Do take advice from others and stop low fat products. Take healthy fats.. Low fat spreads are just awful for health due to them just not being naturally produced ...have real butter.

Do look at the link above and consider frying with virgin coconut oil or butter. Try some berries with cream or full fat yogurt.

Hello jack412 and donnellysdogs, thank you both for the links and very helpful information, which I shall be using tomorrow, I need to get better organised with the diet planning, and doing it.
I need to shrink all my big bits and get a more positive outlook, keep in touch, ttfn

@Scouser58
For some reason, I don't know why Philadelphia cheese has so many ranges of "light" cheese but little full fat cheese unless its the plain one.

I buy Philadelphia in copious amounts as I put it in a long sweet red pepper everyday as a snack. Asda are the cheapest at the moment.. On Friday they were £1 a tub unlike other shops at £1.70!!

Berries again, I bought these from Tesco on offer in their frozen section they do cherries, blueberries and mixed.. I bought all these in copious amounts, brought them home, took them out of their plastic boxes and made up my own mixes in freezer bags.

I am shrewd with my shopping and try to buy stuff when on offer.. Always looking at longest shelf life.

Lidl's pulled pork on offer sometimes and at £1.74 when it is. It's great cooked and lovely in lettuce wraps or just with veg.

It just allows me to then afford the more expensive coconut oil and flour and ground almonds....

Good luck, let us know how you get on...

Hi. Can anyone out there help me please. I have Type 2 Diabetes and for a few months I have been feeling lightheaded on and off for most of the day. Can't relate it to any particular food or activity. It goes when I lay down and overnight. I am very careful with diet, not many carbs, lots of veg and some fruit. No sweets, crisps fatty foods. Any ideas please?
