Not sure why, have had a decent (hopefully low sugar/carb meal for lunch - veggie dinner only small amount of potato and gravy) - still hungry tho. Not sure what to have and to be honest cant be bothered - dont know what to have and just want biscuits and choccys. Don't blame you if you don't post, I wouldn't either!!! Feel like having a moan after being careful what I eat and still getting headache and wanna go to sleep

Try adding a extra portion of veg next time Claire or eat a hard boiled egg or two to satisfy your hunger.

Thank you Nigel, had carrots and sweetcorn which I believe has extra sugar so was careful not to have too much, also cut the fat of my pork steak which I normally eat and enjoy. Just can't seem to figure out what to eat and not, try to go for healthy and low carb etc but doesnt seem to be working. May speak to DN and see if she will prescribe Met and see what happens and my diet doesnt seem to be working - have even tried 3 meals a day and thats not working either. OMG I sound like my mother (well foster mum) :(

If you don't mind fat and have no other health issues, how about leaving the fat on such things for a while? Fat adds taste and can help fill you up too. I don't add fat like some low carbers to my meals but I don't throw it out either if it's part of what I'm eating. You might be being a little too strict with yourself ( I know I was at first ), so don't forget to allow yourself a very small treat occasionally too. Don't beat yourself up...we all have our off days.

Hi Claire,

Sorry you're feeling low, happens to us all from time to time. Hope you feel better soon and moan away - that's what we're here for!

I eat cheeses and meats and so on and not much carbs. This helps me to feel full

Keep well

Carl

Thank you are. Am feeling a bit better today. Have to be careful off having too much fat as have also got high bp and high cholesterol. Will try keeping to low carb over weekend and if it doesn't seem to work will speak to DN. Thanks again, it's nice to know that someone cares (even if you don't really know me) x :P

Hi I have been feeling down like you but have just remembered the reason that I am doing what I am doing I don't want to take more metformin at the moment I take 2x500 metformin one in the morning and one in the evening. I was diagnosed in March last year and yes was very confused but came on this forum and learnt a lot and have been doing a low carb diet my first ahbc1 (whatever can never remember it) was 11.2 my next 9.9 and the DN wanted me to increase my metformin and I said I am working hard at this that is all new to me and would rather try and control it by foods then more drugs she agreed to let me and my next one was 6.3. Remembering this is now helping me to keep to my low carb as I don't want to take more drugs. We can if we want but the result will be take more drugs and eventually end up on insulin. My friend has to take 2 types of drugs as she doesn't control what she eats and I don't want to be like that. I do occasionally have spag bol but a small portion haven't had one for weeks now might try one. I also have an occasional curry but don't eat all the rice and my BS has been okay 2hrs and 3 hrs after. So yes we can have a little treat now and again. So keep going and potatoes can put the BS up I find that new potatoes put my BS up and only eat the Red potatoes as they don't send my BS up so it might be useful to see what types you eat and what your BS is after I found this out when I added some new potatoes to my salad (only 3 little ones) which I know when I have salad my BS is okay so it was the new pots. it funny how some can and some can't. But as you often read here we are all different.

Hope the weekend works out well look after
Sue :)

stick with the low carbs clair i have only been doing it for just over a week and already it has made huge changes to my glucose levels, from and avage 0f 11+ and days where i have been able to keep it below 7 all day which is unheard of for me.

I though just for intrerst i'd try some cerial this morning, yeah big mistake went from a waking reading of 5.4 to 14 2 hours after a small bowl of oatibix! then down to 8.5 after the 3rd hour

Just been for a carvery as well, was careful as far as the potoates etc went kinda blew in the end on some icecream and raspberries so i'm kinda frightened what my 2 hr reading is gonna be like.

When I was diagnosed (type 1), my parents went to my flat and emptied my cupboards of everything that I shouldn't eat whilst I was still in hospital!!! Mum then baked me everything that I 'should eat'....my dad even bought me 'sensible' shoes....(advised to wear lace ups!!)

Your posting that when you see things in the cupboard you want to eat, just reminded me of the help that my Mum and Dad gave me when I was first diagnosed. My dad is no longer alive, and you have brought back some amusing memories for my first days of diagnosis..thank you...they are actually very good memories and quite amusing to me now that I am thinking back 25 years.....not at the time though, I thought Ihad interfering parents!!!!!

You have made me smile and I am grateful to all who have posted. I am trying my best but after meals I get terrible headaches and then fall asleep - not good when I have two lovely children to look after. Will work my way through and speak to DN tomorrow as diet doesn't seem to be working even though I have been very careful :(

I'm not unlike you for being a foody but am getting to grips with this and try my best to eat carb free or very low for breakfast and lunch and themn allow myself some carbs on my dinner...The better I am during the day the more carbs I can have for a lovely evening meal...Good luck.

wobblyme :)

There is an excellent book called 'The diabetes Revolution' that gives some lovely recipes in it, with a number of pretty low carb puddings....dark chocolate mousse-10g CHO!!!-just as one example.

I used to love my pud's but obviously had to limit them, however, this book gives a fab simple recipe that I have adapted as 1/2 an orange, 1/2 an apple and 1/2 a kiwi fruit with 50g Onken no fat strawberry yogurt....and wow that actually stops me craving anything at all. I have this everyday, but change the fruit, (the only fruit I don't have is a banana).

It also gives a pretty good basic explanation of how foods affect both type 1's and type 2's and although it gives ideas on how to lose weight by following a regime, all the foods in it are designed to follow a balanced, lower carb diet. It is my bible now, and has helped me enormously recently. you can get it from Amazon.

This is however, only my opinion, and experience. I am not a dietitian!!!!!

Come round!!!!! You would be more than welcome!!

Actually I live in a beautiful part of South Wales nestled amongst mountains and close to the sea as well, and I was thinking about offering holidays to diabetics who need good healthy carb counted food.

That sounds like a wonderful business idea!!

I actually don't even want to do it for profit either, or as a business. I would love to have any diabetic to stay with us (we have 2 spare bedrooms, 2 lounges and a spare bathroom) and would like to give diabetics an opportunity to have a holiday where they would know they have suitable food served up each day. That's it. Trouble is, if I do it as a B&B say then I have to have fire doors etc, and my deeds say I can't run a business at home. I don't actually want to make a profit, just to cover food and washing of towels and sheets basically. I did email another diabetic website asking if I could do something for them, as they offer diabetics some sort of holidays, but I haven't heard back.

I don't want to be an official business, I don't want to make a profit, I just live in such a beautiful bungalow with beautiful scenery and things to do, that I badly wish that somehow I could get to offer 'escapes' and possible help for people new diagnosed diabetic. Obviously I do not want to make a loss, but I do not want to be registered as a BB with all the extra fire regs and inspections etc.

I have been CRB checked, as I am allowed to look after vulnerable adults, but due to my fibromyalgia, it is difficult for me to help people with more physical difficulties.

I am just at a loss really as to how I could do things to help others unoffically......so to speak

The deeds wouldn't be a problem to get changed - they're 'your' ( or the mortgage companies ) deeds, so it's just a question of getting them changed but I don't think there's any way of getting round the health and safety issues. You might get picked up by the Tax Office too so it would be wise to keep records-just to show you are NOT making a profit, if you do find a way of going ahead.
