Hello, just looking for opinions here but I was unwell with norovirus over the weekend and ventured out for a walk for the first time yesterday. I started to feel a bit shaky and slightly spaced out so headed back home. My reading on returning was 8.5 which I couldn't understand as I'd only had boiled eggs for breakfast 2 hours before. I thought my blood levels must've been low to feel so shaky?

Hia I think its because your body was fighting norovirus and your body is still recovering. You are bound to feel washed out xx

Illness is one of many factors which raise BG so a reading of 8.5 sounds pretty good under the circumstances.
You can only control what you can control.

That said Stress and lack of sleep also tend to raise BG - so do whatever you can to minimise those.

I suspect your body is reacting to the stress of norovirus. Any excess of stress hormone, is likely to push blood sugars up. Feeling shaky......I can have very similar symptoms when I'm hypo and when I'm hyper, that's one of the reasons you should always check your blood sugar when you feel like this. I know someone who assumed their blood sugar was high when they were feeling like this, didn't check their blood sugar, and gave himself insulin, in fact he was hypo, and ended up with a bad hypo and in hospital. It can be really confusing when you're new to diabetes! Best advice...always check your sugars when you feel a bit odd.

Thank you all so much. Sorry for the delay in reading and replying but it's been a wobbly couple of days to say the least. I am going to read up about the effect of illness on sugar levels - hadn't considered that as a stressor! Thanks again, Jay.
