having said all that. i.m not diabetic ang been lower carbing for a while. if i eat bread i just want more. if i eat pasta and rice im starving 1/2 hour after. i.ve never liked cakes or pastry but love the fillings the best. i have to say my carbs are low and fat ? too high as im not losing much weight.
diabetes is hell. i don.t know how you feel only you know that. but being a mum with a pre teen diabetic i can empathize. chin up!!!. good luck. x

Be kind to yourself. This is very hard and you deserve a round of applause for wanting to do something positive
I check in here everyday and it has really helped. Everyone is very supportive and has lots of ideas. I was only diagnose a couple of months ago T2 and reducing my carbs has been very good for my blood sugar levels.
My doctor says that my high blood sugar levels can make me feel depressed and hopeless, so maybe its just part of this whole Diabetes thing and, once you have conquered the carb cravings, you will feel more positive.
Lauraann said:funny you should say that as I have looked on google and am going to get some magnesium supplements today to help, do you take themapple123 said:Hi Laura,
Just read your post - I've had trouble getting a grip on this and its only just really hitting home now. I just wondered if with the chocolate cravings you might be low on Magnesium or other minerals - do you take a good multivitamin/mineral supplement?
take care,
Rachel

feeling awful at mo, headachey, cold and light headed hopefully it is just down to carb withdrawal and will start to feel better soon x

Hi Laura
i just been reading through this thread and let me tell you....it could have been me writing them. I am exactly like you - barr the married and kids - i do struggle with what i eat. i can be good for days and then something happens and i go and binge on as many carbs as i can. so then i undo all my work - feel discouranged and what's the point - and then start again.
it is a vicious circle!!!! i believe depression has something to do with it....cause and consequence i think. i have been prone to it before.
What i ll say is that this place is great...the people and the encouragment you find here is next to none. i think people like us would have been better if we had found places and advise like this before when we were diagnosed - it would have been easier to do something about it.
we MUST NOT give up hope...we MUST try and try until we get it right....and we WILL!! so hang in there!!!!
if you want to pm feel free to do so!!!!
take care

I've noticed that the days I don't take and post my fasting reading in a morning, are the days I'm most likely to stray from the straight-and narrow - don't worry, we all do that occasionally! Just make sure it stays "occasionally".
I feel like I am grieving for the healthy person I used to be.

I got diagnosed as type 1 4 years ago - (plus i found out that I am Coeliac) I was 29. It all started well but since I had my little boy 2.5 years ago I have let myself go - I am, like you, obsessed with the complications that I might develop and vow that I will do better tomorrow - that never happens .
I think it is all just hitting me that this is forever - but as you say it can affect all areas of your life- I feel like I am grieving for the healthy person I used to be.
Anyway your post made me realise I could do with the support from a forum like this - so thankyou!

Hi AnnaGall,
I so understand where your coming from I was diagnosed 6 yrs ago, 1 year after my son was born. ( I had thyroid problems in the years running up to diagnosis ) Previous to this I was fit healthy and could eat what I wanted and never put weight on ( I was actualy underweight but not intentionaly. ) I was In denial for alot of that time but also hadnt got a clue about owning and managing my condition. I was not shown how to carb count. Recently something clicked and I found out about carb counting, and my hospital seem to be helping more.
When you have a child and a family it is natural to see to everyone 1st and think of yourself last. My son is 7 now and I have realised that I cannot waste anymore time. I hope you get the help to turn it round. This forum is great and i would recommend learning to carb count as being in control makes all the difference. BDEC do one online and I will post another link that Pheonix gave me.
Lucy.
