Hi everyone,

Just wanted to see if I were the only person to feel this but on a regular basis no matter what my BG is, I feel like I'm on a stinking high. It's like I feel tightness in all my joints, my sense of smell goes off the chart, standard sweet tasting in my mouth and can't cope with heat. I can feel this and be any level at all and it's not ketones. I've used more than 1 meter and washed hands etc. Not on many meds really just Lisinopril 5mg for DKD prevention. Anybody get the same as me?

Thanks in advance.

After having a hyper my mouth being dry takes a while to get back to normal, the heat honestly I think it's just the time of year for me at least , I found my diet to be a bit of an issue with how I felt once I ate and took the correct insulin dose how I would feel after each meal would vary. Healthier foods honestly made me feel much better in myself and ensuring I had a decent amount of carbs to go with for energy. The gym really helps also insulin works much better after a workout

So you think it may be what I'm eating? I am a lover of food and I ate everything from take outs to healthy items but I can't honestly say I feel better after a salad or fruit. High carb foods do make me more sluggish though.

I found my diet was missing things which in my case was healthy foods :)

Carbs are what you take insulin for, I try to take my insulin as early as possible before eating this can be dangerous though because hypos are so easy to onset the earlier you take it. High carbs will give you more energy but the insulin dose has to be spot on for me to see benefit.

My personal struggles have been the same as yours for years to be honest it felt like I was reading what was on my mind with time in having less of these days and more energy filled ones.

hi @bennycrock,
I can relate to the achy tight joints but not the other symptoms.
I figure that for me after 51 years on insulin that there is build up of 'burnt fuel' products ( called AGEs - Advanced Glycation End-products) which in diabetes can cause things like chronic inflammation in areas like joints and muscles.
But I wonder whether there are different things happening for you. ? vitamin deficiency or excess. ? other
I note that with Type 1 diabetes other auto-immune diseases can develop like coeliac disease (CD) and pernicious anemia to name two. CD may causes malabsorption of vitamins, minerals, and pernicious anaemia is caused by inability to absorb vitamin B12.
Lack of some vitamins affect taste, energy levels, other senses etc.
Of course these are just guesses and I reckon a trip to your problem-solving doctor is probably the best way forward.

Good luck in getting this sorted !!

Thank you for your reply. It's still the same on and off, the only thing I can think of is my tresiba. I can't really remember feeling this bad before it. Luckily enough I am going on to a pump in the near future so hopefully this will tell me if it is the long acting Insulin. I truly hope you start to feel better soon.
