Feeling unwell, should I take metformin?

Hi everyone,

I've been feeling unwell since yesterday evening, made a cheese omelette for dinner and have had diarrhoea and quite bad stomach pains since about 30 minutes after eating it. Thought it possibly wasn't cooked enough although I'm always careful with things like that. Today I'm not feeling good at all, stomach still very upset, have body aches and a bad headache too. Don't really feel feverish, very slight cough but nothing too bad. I'm concerned now it could be flu because I definitely feel a bit flu'ish. I was only diagnosed in November so haven't received the flu vaccination this year. I didn't take my metformin today because I thought it might make my stomach worse, is that the right thing to do? Also should I be contacting gp/diabetes nurse? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Maggie we cannot diagnose or suggest drug instructions here, so the advice I have is to ring 111 for advice if you’re in the U.K. I hope you feel better soon x

Hi. Metformin is for most of us a very mild and safe drug. If you never have any problems with it, if it was me I would continue with it and be prepared to stop if problems arose.
