Hi everyone,

I've been eating and drinking like I used to before my betes diagnosis for months now.

Went to the nurse last week and was AMAZED to discover that my HbA1c is still below 7 and my cholesterol is still below 5.

I'm still diet only, still taking the benfotiamine, but stopped taking the acai berries. My old (large) appetite has returned and I've put weight back on.

Why am I telling you all this???

Because, as soon as the festive season is over I'm back onto a strict drink and diet regime to ensure my next check up with the nurse produces the same results. I know if I don't she will have me on Metformin and I want to avoid that if I can.

Merry Xmas everybody and here's hoping that we all have a healthy 2011. :p

People who are touchy.......feign indignation at the slightest thing. Hypocrites, bullies and cowards.
Jim.
Don't know about the Nurse having you on Metformin.....probably the 'rack' more like.

Have a good one. :)

My HbA1c was 5.2 last month, it was hard work getting there but I was happy to hear the results.

I am now, as of last month, on Metformin. My DSN who is well informed regarding the latest treatments etc. , was keen to start me on Metformin.

There are many long term benefits and having considered them and listened to advice I decided to start metformin.

It appears that it is far better to start earlier rather than later, as some protective mechanism keeps the receptor cells more sensitive to insulin you produce for longer.

Liver, heart and kidneys all benefit.

Some medical advisors advise anyone who is, or has been glucose intolerant, T2 or pre-diabetic to start Metformin.

I have to say that I have had no side effects and my average BG has dropped by about 1, yes 1 mmol.
That must put me at non diabetic figures and that suits me.

So, if you are T2 and diet/excercise controlled even with low A1c figures it could be worth starting a low dose of Metformin if your Doc. thinks it advisable.

I have fought the battle for 8 years and won, and at 5.2 still winning, but a little help is most welcome.

I feel guilty too. We have been on a Christmas mini cruise. I did try to be careful honest. But I really did enjoy it. Back to the diet soon.
Just on diet and 2 500 metformin.

I allowed myself to have a good time. Now its New Year celebrations and I shall also spoil myself. Without feeling guilty. Then I shall get right back on the diet, in preparation for my forthcoming HbA1c test which will reveal all

With Hogmany not far away we should be thinking of what alcohol is best to drink if you have betes.

My extensive research indicates that red wine, whisky or a pure distilled spirit such as vodka is best.

In moderation of course.
