Feeling Weak and Dizzy

Just wondering if anyone else feels weak or dizzy often with there Type 2 Diabetes?

Last couple of weeks I seem to have weak and dizzy spells either before eating a meal or not long after taking medication. I'm on 2000mg of Glucophage and thats all I take as treatment medication wise. Does anyone else have this problem either with Glucophage or just in general because of there Diabetes, I would of expected this to be more common with people who have Type 1 Diabetes due to low blood glucose levels?

There are many reasons why you might be feeling weak and dizzy, many of them unrelated to Diabetes. It would be more helpful to us if you had some Bg readings from when these episodes take place. Before meals and also afterwards (2hrs).

In any case you should discuss this with your GP.

I have actually took some readings either 2HRs after eating or during the time I start feeling weak and the BG levels are not high (between 6.3 and 7.0)

The Glucophage has been more effective since I had my dose increased from 1000 to 2000mg.

Your right when you say it could be down to something else thats logical, but I didn't have these weak or dizzy spells before I started taking Glucophage so was wondering wether this is a common side effect with this medication?

If your levels were higher before and then your levels dropped to the figures you quote then this could simply be what is termed a 'false hypo' when your body thinks you are going too low and starts to give out warning signs which are the same as real hypo symptoms.

It is a possibility that the change in medication may be related and also there is a side effect which you need to discuss with your GP, as this can be serious.......lactic acidosis. Please don't think I am telling you that is what it is....it is just something you should be aware of and need to discuss. Details of this with symptoms etc are usually found in the Patient Information Leaflet.

I will get in touch with the Diabetic nurse at my GP Surgery tomorrow an see what there saying, I didn't know anything about a "False-Hypo" so this is useful information, appreciate the help.
