Fed up, friends, utterly fed up:

In bed, my body can be too hot to the point of sweating, and still my feet are blocks of blessed ice. I'm actually having to wear ruddy socks in bed some nights, just to get to sleep.

Yeeeeeesh.

It's not unusual. I have neglected my feet for years and started to get bad pains. They are a bit tingly because of a side effect of a drug but they got much worse during the last two years. Pampering them works wonders. I wear bed socks every night. Good socks and good shoes are a must. There's even a web site, http://www.cosyfeet.com/

Diabetes often causes poor circulation in the feet. That may be the cause of the feeling cold. Washing your feet in warm water with a long handled brush makes 'em feel much better and with regular brushing, it helps the blood flow. Its the stimulation of the brush that is important. Since I adopted this regime, the pains and cramps have more or less disappeared. But I still avoid walking around barefoot, wear socks all the time and use warm slippers in the house. There's no lounging around in stockinged feet.

Thanks muchly, Yorksman- I'll be trying the tips! Don't know about you, but I'm still picking up techniques to deal with all this (type II, daignosed a couple of years now but only just getting to grips with it all)

Hello MarkE.

Keep an eye on your circulation in your toots ...
I soak my feet in warm bubbles then towel dry feet well .
Then using diprobase emollient cream my feet get massaged with this cream. [GP prescribed this for me]
Doing this does 2 things at the same time .
Skin gets creamed and cared for - the massage restimulates the circulation and blood flow.

After this I pop my thermal diabetic socks on and ALWAYS wear good footwear both
inside and outside of the house.
For slippers I use and LOVE the flyflot leather mules .
[confess have a few pairs of these!]

I do this whilst watching TV or on my PC in the late evenings .

Then when I go to bed my toots are lovely warm and cosy
Learnt its not how to do this - but more a case of 'WHEN' to do it .
Definetely pre-bedtime for the best effects to warm the feet up ...
So when settle to sleep - all is comfortably cosy enabling a better nights sleep .

Hope this can help Mark as its awful with frozen feet 'I do understand'.

Anna.

Hi Mark I know of a type 2 who has very cold feet and she has just purchased a hot water bottle, could also help you, maybe  Best wishes RRB

Be VERY CAREFUL when using a hot water bottle, I suffered severe neuropathy, feet constantly cold, used a hot water bottle, thought it was the right temperature, but how wrong I was, developed a blister, it burst, infection set in rapidly, I almost lost my big toe because of it >> was in the bad old days of poor diabetes control.

Luckily my feet are intact, not only that, neuropathy reversed save for a slight tingle in the small toe, right foot.

Best to avoid placing feet onto direct heat like a radiator/hot water bottle etc...
This can and does cause painful chillblains " I know " used to do this as a young girl

Anna.

Just a quick note, if anybody uses a hot water bottle then it should have its cover on, NEVER use a hottie without a cover for anything and maybe a trip to your GP or DSN would help. Never fill a hottie with boiling water, the bottle should be snuggly and warm, not boiling/ hot to the touch. I have never suffered from cold feet, I normally have to take my socks off ( as I have done tonight) because they get too warm :o I hope you find something that works for your poor ole feet. All the best RRB
